João Castelo
João Castelo Ribeiro Gonçalves (October 19, 1937 – December 11, 2016) was a Brazilian politician and lawyer who was Governor of Maranhão, Brazil from March 15, 1979, to May 15, 1982. Biographical data Son of Tales of Amarante Ribeiro Gonçalves and Maria Antonieta Cruz Ribeiro Gonçalves. A registered administrative technician at the Federal Council, he was assistant to the Cabinet of Mayor Carlos Vasconcelos in São Luís until he became an employee of the Banco da Amazônia in 1956, eventually occupying one of his boards before joining politics. He also held the following functions: State Treasurer of Maranhão, Member of Working Group for Data Processing and Technical Standards of the Ministry of the Interior and of the Banking Advisory Committee of the National Monetary Council. The Chamber of Deputies ( pt, Câmara dos Deputados) is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current President of the Chamber is the Deputy Arthur Lira ( PP- AL), who was elected on 1 February 2021. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population.
