João Carlos Di Genio
João Carlos Di Genio (27 February 1939 – 12 February 2022) was a Brazilian physician and educator. He created and was the main owner of the largest educational holding in the country, comprising the Sistema Objetivo (primary, secondary and preparatory schools) and the Universidade Paulista (UNIP), a private university with more than 60 campuses all over Brazil. Education and career Born in Third Brazilian Republic, Brazil, Di Genio started his educational career while he was a medical student at the University of São Paulo, in São Paulo in the 1960s. The mandatory entrance examination to the medical schools was increasingly tougher for many high school students. The inborn entrepreneurial spirit of di Genio led him to create a one-year preparatory pre-med course, initially in his own home. AFK Sistema PAO is a large Russian Conglomerate (company), conglomerate company, founded by Vladimir Yevtushenkov, who was chairman of the corporation's board of directors until 2022. In April, Yevtushenkov's shareholding in Sistema has decreased to 49.2%, and he also stepped down from Sistema's board. Sistema has its headquarters in Moscow. The company's global depository receipts (GDRs) traded on the London Stock Exchange from 2005 until delisting in May 2023. It has been under US sanctions since November 2023. The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". Third Brazilian Republic
The Estado Novo (), or Third Brazilian Republic, began on 10 November 1937, and consolidated Getúlio Vargas' power. Vargas had assumed leadership of Brazil following the 1930 revolution that ended the First Brazilian Republic, First Republic. The Estado Novo ended politically on 29 October 1945, and officially on 31 January 1946. It was characterized by Brazilian nationalism, centralized power, anti-communism and authoritarianism. It was part of the period known as the Vargas Era that began with the Second Brazilian Republic. Drauzio Varella
Antônio Drauzio Varella (; born May 3, 1943, in São Paulo, Brazil) is a Brazilian physician, scientist, writer, and medical science communicator. Varella has often commented publicly on issues such as prison conditions, social welfare, government, literature, medicine, and skepticism, and has frequently debunked pseudoscientific medical claims. Varella was born in the Brás district of São Paulo to a family of Portuguese and Spanish descent and studied medicine at the University of São Paulo. While an undergraduate, he co-founded preparatory course Sistema Objetivo, where he taught chemistry for several years.
