Journey To Journey
''Journey to Journey'' is the debut album of Miho Hazama and her chamber orchestra m_unit, released in November 2012. Background This debut album was recorded in July 2012 just after Miho Hazama had got master's degree from Manhattan School of Music (MSM), and was directed by Jim McNeely who had been her supervisor at MSM. As Miho could not find suitable players for string section except for cello, she consulted with Jim McNeely, and Jim introduced Mark Feldman. Then Mark called the other strings players. Sam Anning for bass and Meaghan Burke for cello were her classmates at MSM, and Jake Goldbas for drums was one year after them. Half of the band members are from MSM. Reception ''Journey to Journey'' received "Jazz Japan Album of the year / Rising star category" in Jazz Japan Award 2012. Miho Hazama
is a Tokyo-born composer and jazz musician, based in New York City. Early life and career Miho Hazama started to play electric keyboard at the age of three at Yamaha Music Foundation's School, and received attention when she proceeded to the final of Junior Electone Concours '96 at the age of ten. Hazama attended and graduated the Kunitachi College of Music, where she studied classical composition from Masakazu Natsuda and . While in the college, she was active in composition and arrangement, and provided her works to Yōsuke Yamashita, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, and . Mark Feldman (born 1955 in Chicago) is an American jazz violinist. Biography Feldman worked in Chicago from 1973–1980, in Nashville, Tennessee from 1980–1986, in New York City and Western Europe from 1986. He has performed with John Zorn, John Abercrombie (guitarist), John Abercrombie, The Masada String Trio, Dave Douglas (trumpeter), Dave Douglas, Uri Caine, and Billy Hart. He was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and played in many bar bands in Chicago. Stefon DeLeon Harris (born March 23, 1973) is an American jazz vibraphonist. Biography A native of Albany, New York, Harris intended to work for the New York Philharmonic until he heard the music of Charlie Parker. During the 1990s he recorded with Charlie Hunter and Steve Turre as a session musician. He signed with Blue Note, which released his debut album, '' A Cloud of Red Dust'' (1998). Steve Wilson (born February 9, 1961) is an American jazz multi-instrumentalist, who is best known in the musical community as a flutist and an alto and soprano saxophonist. Jim McNeely
Jim McNeely (born May 18, 1949) is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and faculty. Biography Jim McNeely was born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois, and moved to New York City in 1975. In 1978, he joined the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band. He spent six years as a featured soloist with that band and its successor, Mel Lewis and the Jazz Orchestra (now the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra). In 1981, he began a four-year tenure as pianist/composer with the Stan Getz Quartet. From 1990 until 1995, he was the pianist in the Phil Woods Quintet. In 1996, he re-joined the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra as pianist. He is still associated with the Vanguard Orchestra as composer-in-residence. ''Time River'' is a studio album by Miho Hazama and her chamber orchestra m_unit, released in September 2015. Background "Under the Same Moon" was originally composed when Miho Hazama was around twenty years old. When Miho was introduced from Gil Goldstein about his video of accordion quartet via email, she noticed and felt similarity. Then she decided to rearrange "Under the Same Moon" for Gil and m_unit, her bigband. Gil was invited as a guest player. In the title track "Time River", another guest, Joshua Redman is playing. At the end of this album, a track of American rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, "Magdalena", is included. Miho Hazama had been playing tracks of A Perfect Circle in her cover band, when she was a senior high school student, and her favorite track was "The Hollow" in album ''Mer de Noms''.
