Joseph P. Kinneary
Joseph Peter Kinneary (September 19, 1905 – February 14, 2003) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The Joseph P. Kinneary U.S. Courthouse in Downtown Columbus is named for him. Education and career Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kinneary graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1924, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1928 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1935. He was in private practice in Cincinnati and in Columbus, Ohio, from 1935 to 1961. He was an assistant state attorney general of Ohio from 1937 to 1939. He served as a captain in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lecturer at the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1948. United States attorneys are officials of the U.S. Department of Justice who serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in each of the 94 U.S. federal judicial districts. Each U.S. attorney serves as the United States' chief federal criminal prosecutor in their judicial district and represents the U.S. federal government in civil litigation in federal and state court within their geographic jurisdiction.
