Josep Maria Nadal I Farreras
Josep Maria Nadal i Farreras (born 1949, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain) is Professor of History of Language at the University of Girona. Biography He graduated in Romance studies, Romance Philology at the University of Barcelona and is Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona since 1975. He worked at this university for sixteen years, where he became Professor in 1987 and he held several management positions. From this position he promoted the creation of the University of Girona, which happened in December 1991. He was Chancellor of this new university from 1993 to early 2002. He has also been Chair of the Department of Language and Communication from 2009 to 2012. Girona
Girona (; ) is the capital city of the Province of Girona in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain, at the confluence of the Ter, Onyar, Galligants, and Güell rivers. The city had an official population of 106,476 in 2024, but the population of the Girona–Salt urban area is estimated to be about 156,400 (2020). Maria Carme Junyent i Figueras (4 February 1955 – 3 September 2023), commonly known as Carme Junyent, was a Catalan linguist. Renowned in her work field, in particular for her defense of the Catalan language and studies on endangered languages, she was a professor of linguistics at the University of Barcelona. Joaquim Nadal i Farreras (born 31 January 1948) is a Spanish politician and historian from Catalonia. He is a professor at the University of Girona and was the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Works of the Catalan Government, the Generalitat de Catalunya, from December 2003 to December 2010. Years as mayor of Girona (1979-2002) In 1979, he was the first mayor of Girona democratically elected after the Spanish transition, from the PSC). Rosanna Sornicola
Rosanna Sornicola (born February 1953) is an Italian linguist specializing in typology, Latin and Romance linguistics. Career and honours Sornicola studied at the University of Naples, then held positions as assistant professor at the University of Salerno (1977-1978), lecturer at the University of Palermo (1978-1983) and associate professor at the University of Basilicata (1983-1988), all in general linguistics.
