Jos Brink Award
The Jos Brink Award (Jos Brink Prijs in Dutch) is a Dutch LGBT emancipation prize, founded in 2008 by the Dutch government. It is awarded every two years and named after the Dutch gay actor, cabaret artist and writer Jos Brink (1942-2007). Since 2011, a Jos Brink Innovation Prize (Jos Brink Innovatie Prijs) is awarded besides a Jos Brink Oeuvre Prize. In 2015, only the former prize was awarded. General background The Jos Brink Prijs was initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, which is responsible for emancipation. It is awarded every two years to "a person or organization working on the acceptance of lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people". LGBT Movements
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movements are social movements that advocate for LGBT people in society. Some focus on equal rights, such as the ongoing movement for same-sex marriage, while others focus on liberation, as in the gay liberation movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Earlier movements focused on self-help and self-acceptance, such as the homophile movement of the 1950s. Although there is not a primary or an overarching central organization that represents all LGBT people and their interests, numerous LGBT rights organizations are active worldwide. The earliest organizations to support LGBT rights were formed in the early 20th century. A commonly stated goal among these movements is social equality for LGBT people, but there is still denial of full LGBT rights. Joke Swiebel (born 1941) is a Dutch political scientist, and a former policy maker, politician and activist. Since the 1960s, she has been involved with the feminist and LGBT movements. She served as first chair of the Federation of Student Working Groups on Homosexuality and on the board of the COC Nederland while a student. In the former capacity, she was one of the organizers of the first LGB demonstration in the Netherlands — and probably all of Europe — which was held on January 21, 1969. It was a protest against a discriminatory provision in the Criminal Code, introduced in 1911, that set a significantly higher age of consent for homosexual than for heterosexual contact.After earning her master's degree in 1972 from the University of Amsterdam, she led the political science library at that institution until 1977. Ellie Lust (born 17 September 1966) is a Dutch television presenter and former police officer and police spokesperson. Boris Ottokar Dittrich (; born 21 July 1955) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66) party, jurist, author and human rights activist. He is a Member of the Senate since 11 June 2019. Dittrich's father came to the Netherlands as a political asylum seeker from Czechoslovakia in 1948, he became a professor in Eastern-European history at the University of Utrecht. Boris Dittrich grew up in Utrecht and went to law school at Leiden University. COC Nederland
COC Nederland, also known as COC Netherlands, is a Dutch LGBT rights organization, LGBTQ+ rights group founded in 1946. COC originally stood for ''Cultuur en Ontspanningscentrum'' (Center for Culture and Leisure), which was intended as a "cover" name for its real purpose. It is the oldest existing LGBT organization in the world. Since 2000 it has a federated structure of 24 local associations, united on national level in the "Federatie van Nederlandse Verenigingen tot Integratie van Homoseksualiteit COC Nederland" (Federation of Dutch Associations for Integration of Homosexuality COC Netherlands), or COC Nederland for short. ''Gay Krant'' was a Dutch magazine written for the gay community, published every month since 1980. It was published by the Best Publishing Group under leadership of Henk Krol. The magazine has its headquarters in Amsterdam. After a bankruptcy in 2013, the magazine was taken over by the companies behind the other gay media Winq, Gay.nl and OUTTV. The Gay Krant then first appeared as a combined edition with homoglossy Winq under the name Winq , Gaykrant, but eventually the indication Gaykrant disappeared and nowadays the magazine is simply called Winq.
