Jonathan D. Farrar
Jonathan Don Farrar (born 1956) was the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Panama from 2012 to 2015. He was previously the Chief of Mission of the United States Interests Section in Havana, Cuba, from July 2008 to September 2011. Background information Farrar joined the U.S. State Department in 1980 as an economic officer, and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He was born in Los Angeles, California, graduated from Covina High School, and studied at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Claremont Graduate University, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. The United States has maintained diplomatic relations with Panama since its separation from Colombia in 1903. The rank of the U.S. chief of mission to Panama was originally Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, but it was upgraded to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in 1939.
