John Samuel Waters Jr. (born April 22, 1946) is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, and artist. He rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films, including '' Multiple Maniacs'' (1970), '' Pink Flamingos'' (1972) and '' Female Trouble'' (1974). Waters wrote and directed the comedy film '' Hairspray'' (1988), which was later adapted into a hit Broadway musical and a 2007 musical film. His other films include '' Desperate Living'' (1977), ''Polyester'' (1981), '' Cry-Baby'' (1990), '' Serial Mom'' (1994), '' Pecker'' (1998), and '' Cecil B. Demented'' (2000). John Waters (October 31, 1893 – May 6, 1965) was an American film director, second unit director and, initially, an assistant director. His career began in the early days of silent film and culminated in two consecutive Academy Award nominations in the newly instituted (but short-lived) category of Best Assistant Director. He won on his second nomination, for MGM's ''Viva Villa!'', and received a certificate of merit; the certificate was replaced with an Oscar statuette in 1965. General Sir Charles John Waters, (2 September 1935 – 29 January 2025) was a British Army officer who served as Commander-in-Chief, Land Forces from 1990 to 1993. Military career Waters was born in Rangoon, British Burma on 2 September 1935. John Augustine Waters (born 28 May 1955) is a far-right Irish columnist, political candidate and author. He started his career with music and politics magazine, Hot Press, and also wrote for the Sunday Tribune newspaper. He later edited the social magazine In Dublin, and the investigative and current affairs magazine Magill. He became a regular columnist at the Irish Times and then the Irish Independent, while authoring some works on non-fiction, and developed ''The Whoseday Book'', which raised 3 million euros for charity. John Waters (July 4, 1829 – December 7, 1910) was a Canadian Liberal legislator who, from June 1879 to May 1894, represented the Ontario riding of Middlesex North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario where, in 1893, he introduced a bill which would have given women the vote in provincial elections. He was born in Scotland in 1829. From 1868 to 1875, prior to his service in the Legislative Assembly, Waters held the title of reeve, as the elected administrator for rural municipality of East Williams Township and, in 1875, served as warden for Middlesex County. Sir John Waters Kirwan, KCMG (2 December 1869 – 9 September 1949) was an Australian politician who was the President of the Western Australian Legislative Council and first Federal member for Kalgoorlie in the Australian House of Representatives. Biography Early life Kirwan was born on 2 December 1869 in Liverpool, England. He was the son of Irish immigrants Mary (née Waters) and Nicholas John Kirwan. His father was a "gentleman farmer" originally from County Galway, while his mother was the granddaughter of Garrett Byrne of Ballymanus, a leader of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Career He did literary work in London and Dublin before coming to Australia in 1889.
