John McLellan (ice Hockey)
Daniel John McLellan (August 6, 1928 – October 27, 1979) was a Canadian professional hockey player and coach in the National Hockey League. He was a member of teams that won the Memorial Cup, the Allan Cup and the world championships. Playing career Born in South Porcupine, Ontario (now part of Timmins), McLellan was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs and brought to Toronto to play for the St. Michael's Buzzers (1945–46) and then the St. Michael's Majors, playing on the team that won the Memorial Cup in 1947. As a senior, McLellan played three seasons with the Toronto Marlboros, winning the Allan Cup in 1950. Both of McLellan's cup victories came under coach Joe Primeau. McLellan turned professional in 1950, and would play most of the next four seasons with the Pittsburgh Hornets, the Maple Leafs' American Hockey League affiliate. John McLellan (journalist)
John McLellan (born February 1962) is a Scottish newspaper journalist, former editor of ''The Scotsman'' (2009–2012), Scottish Conservative Party media chief (2012–2013) and was a Conservative City of Edinburgh councillor (2017-2022). Education McLellan was educated at Hutchesons' Grammar School (1974–1979) and studied BA English & media studies (1980–1983) at University of Stirling and journalism ( NCTJ) at Preston Polytechnic (1983–1984). Career McLellan was sports editor of the ''North-West Evening Mail'' and Assistant Editor of '' The Journal'', Newcastle, before joining The Scotsman Publications in 1994 and had two spells editing the ''Edinburgh Evening News'' (1997–2002 and 2004–2009) and also edited ''Scotland on Sunday'' (2002–2004). John McLellan (songwriter)
John McLellan, who lived in the early 19th century, was a Tyneside poet and songwriter. He is thought to have written a dialect song that draws on the cholera outbreaks of the 1830s. Cholera song According to information published in 1840, McLellan wrote the song "Cobbler o' Morpeth", subtitled "Cholera Morbus". "Cobbler" was a slang term used for the dread disease of cholera. There was a strong cholera epidemic in 1831–1832 and further outbreaks in 1848–1849 and 1853. The last led to 1,533 deaths in Newcastle, despite the opening of emergency hospitals, closure of public institutions such as theatres, quarantining of ships, cleansing streets with fire-engine hoses, excluding bodies from places of worship, and requiring graves to be at least six foot deep. John McLellan (footballer)
John McLellan, (Some sources state his surname was McLennan) known as Jack McLellan, was a Scottish footballer who played in the English Football League for Accrington. Jack McLellan was a professional player with a fine kick and tackle. His first club was Hearts from his native Edinburgh. He signed for Hearts in 1887 and moved south to England the following year. Season 1888-89 Jack McLennan, playing as a full–back, made his Accrington and League debut on 8 September 1888, at Anfield, the then home of Everton. Accrington lost the match 2–1. John MacLellan
John James MacLellan (July 26, 1878 – September 17, 1955) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1930 to 1935 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. During his time in office he briefly served as a cabinet minister in the government of Premier Richard Reid from 1934 to 1935. Political career MacLellan ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1930 Alberta general election as a United Farmers candidate in the electoral district of Taber. He won a closely contested two way race over an independent candidate to hold the district for his party. MacLellan was promoted to the Executive Council of Alberta by Premier Richard Reid on July 14, 1934 to run the Public Works portfolio.
