John Hall (Canadian Artist)
John Hall (born January 17, 1943) is a Canadian Modernism, modernist Painting, painter from Alberta, known for his highly realistic painting style. Life He has taught fine art at Ohio Wesleyan University, the Alberta College of Art and Design, and the University of Calgary (1971-1998) (since 1998, he has been Professor Emeritus of the Department of Art). Currently, he is based in West Kelowna, BC Career Throughout his career, Hall has focused on painstakingly accurate Still life, still-life paintings of everyday objects. He has said in the past that he chooses the objects both for their symbolism and for their formal relationships. In 2016, curator Liz Wylie suggested that he is moved and inspired by the effects of light on objects. In 1969, he taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and while there travelled to nearby American museums and New York to see American Pop art of the 1960s. Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada, on the northeastern end of Lake Ontario. It is at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River, the south end of the Rideau Canal. MacKenzie Art Gallery
The MacKenzie Art Gallery (MAG; ) is an art museum located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The museum occupies the multipurpose T. C. Douglas Building, situated at the edge of the Wascana Centre. The building holds eight galleries totaling to of exhibition space. The museum originates from a private collection donated to Regina College (later the University of Regina) from Norman MacKenzie. In 1953, the college established the Norman MacKenzie Art Gallery in order to exhibit works from that collection. In 1990, the art museum was incorporated as an independent institution from the university, and moved into the T. C. Douglas Building at the southwestern edge of Wascana Centre. Glenbow Museum
The Glenbow Museum is an art and history local museum, regional museum in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The museum focuses on Western Canada, Western Canadian history and culture, including Indigenous perspectives. The Glenbow was established as a private non-profit Foundation (nonprofit), foundation in 1955 by lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Eric Lafferty Harvie with materials from his personal collection. The museum moved to its current facility in downtown Calgary in 1976, and is funded by the governments of Calgary, Alberta, and Canada, private donors, as well as an endowment provided by Harvie. In 2019, the Glenbow had a total of 148,668 visitors. The museum closed for renovations in 2021 and is scheduled to re-open in 2026. Alexandra Haeseker (born 1945) is a Canadian painter, print maker, and installation artist, based in Calgary, Alberta. She is a professor emerita at Alberta University of the Arts. Her works can be found in public collections in Canada and internationally. Biography Haeseker was born in Breda, Netherlands, in 1945 and moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada with her family in 1955. She studied painting at the University of Calgary, earning bachelor's (1966) and master's (1972) degrees. She earned a diploma in fine arts from Alberta College of Art (now Alberta University of the Arts) in 1968. Haseker taught painting, drawing, and watercolor at the Alberta College of Art from 1973 to 2003. She was awarded professor emeritus status in 2004.
