John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 – February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. John Daniel Francis (born 13 November 1980) is an English former first-class cricketer who played county cricket at first-class level for Hampshire and Somerset as a batsman. Cricket career Beginnings at Hampshire Francis was born at Bromley in Kent in November 1980. He grew up in Southampton, where he was educated at King Edward VI School. From there, he attended Durham University, followed by Loughborough University. John H. Francis III (born 1946) is an American environmentalist nicknamed The Planetwalker. Born in Philadelphia, the son of a West Indian immigrant, he moved to Marin County, California, as a young man. After witnessing the devastation caused by the 1971 San Francisco Bay oil spill, he stopped riding in motorized vehicles, a vow that lasted 22 years from 1972 until 1994. From 1973 until 1990, he also spent 17 years voluntarily silent. During this time, he studied for a PhD in land management and traveled extensively, walking across the entire width of the lower 48 states of the USA as well as walking to South America. He published his memoir ''Planetwalker: How To Change Your World One Step at a Time'' (republished as ''Planetwalker: 17 Years of Silence, 22 Years of Walking'') detailing his travels. John Francis (3 September 1780 – 30 August 1861) was an English sculptor. Life Francis was born in Lincolnshire, and was intended to go into farming. He settled in London, where he became a pupil of Samuel Joseph (sculptor), Samuel Joseph and Francis Leggatt Chantrey. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1820 a bust of Thomas William Coke, and another of William Bolton (Royal Navy officer, died 1830), Captain Sir William Bolton, Royal Navy, R.N. John Francis (bushranger)
John Francis (c. 1825 – after 1853) was one of a party of bushrangers who held up the Melbourne Private Escort Company's regular escort of gold from the McIvor diggings at Heathcote, Victoria, to Kyneton on the morning of 20 July 1853. At least six men were involved, five of whom including Francis and his brother, George Francis (c. 1825–1853), were apprehended. His brother committed suicide while in custody, but by turning Queen's evidence, Francis escaped punishment and the other three companions were hanged.
