John Evans (rugby Union, Born 1926)
John Davies Evans (30 June 1926 — 25 March 1989) was a Welsh international rugby union player. A colliery worker from Mountain Ash, Evans was a prop with Cardiff, capped twice for Wales in the 1958 Five Nations, playing their final two fixtures against Ireland at Lansdowne Road and France at Cardiff Arms Park. He was also a member of the invitational Barbarians side for a 1958 match against the East Midlands. Evans later worked as a sales manager for Scottish & Newcastle breweries. Mountain Ash () is a town and former Community (Wales), community in the Cynon Valley, within the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, with a population of 11,230 at the 2011 Census, estimated in 2019 at 11,339. The Barbarian Football Club, known as the Barbarians, is a British-based invitational rugby union club. The Barbarians play in black and white hoops, though players wear socks from their own club strip. Membership is by invitation. As of 2011, players from 31 countries had played for them. Traditionally at least one uncapped player is selected for each match. Until rugby union became a professional sport, the Barbarians usually played six annual matches: with Penarth, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport at Easter; a game with Leicester on 27 December and the Mobbs Memorial Match against East Midlands in the spring.
