John Case (Aristotelian Writer)
John Case (or Johannes Casus) (died 1600) was an English writer on Aristotle. Life Case was born between 1539 and 1546 at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, and was a chorister at New College and Christ Church, Oxford. He was elected to a scholarship at St. John's in 1564. He was B.A. in 1568, M.A. in 1572, and became a fellow of his college. He had a high reputation as a disputant. Being " popishly affected," says Anthony Wood, he "left his fellowship and married" in 1574. His wife was Elizabeth Dobson, the widow of John Dobson, the keeper of Bocardo prison. Case's stepdaughter Anne Dobson married Regius Professor of Medicine (Oxford) Bartholomew Warner. Case obtained leave from the university to read logic and philosophy to young men, chiefly Roman Catholics, in his own house in Oxford; it became a largely attended philosophical school due to Case's reputation as a logician and dialectician. John Case (c.1660–1700) was an English astrologer and quack doctor, a writer on anatomy, astrology and medicine. Life Case was born about 1660, at Lyme Regis in Dorset. Thompson, C. J. S. (1928)''The Quacks of Old London'' Brentano's Ltd. pp. 47-52 In about 1682, he lived in Lambeth. By 1696, he had placed the letters M.D. after his name, and was living close to Ludgate, having succeeded to the business of Thomas Safford, who had succeeded to that of William Lilly; he was in possession of their apparatus. John Higley Case (April 15, 1832 – March 3, 1890) was an American politician. Case was born in Torrington, Connecticut, April 15, 1832, and entered Yale College from Granby, Connecticut, whither his father, Dr. Jarrus Case, removed in his infancy. For a year after graduation in 1855 he was at home, engaged in agriculture and the study of law. In September, 1856, he entered the Yale Law School, where he studied for a year. John Carol Case (27 April 192328 December 2012) was an English baritone. Early life Case was born in Salisbury, England. Awarded a choral scholarship at King's College, Cambridge, he graduated with MA and BMus degrees. Early career One of England's leading baritones in oratorio and lieder, in the mid-1950s he became associated with all the great choral societies and festivals. He served as Director of Music at King's College School in Wimbledon, and also as National Music Advisor to the Townswomen's Guilds. A regular broadcaster on BBC radio, he performed on television and in concert throughout Europe and Canada.
