John Baxter (architect)
John Baxter (c. 1737 – 14 July 1798) was a Scottish architect who was active in the second half of the eighteenth century. His father, also called John Baxter (d. 1770), was a master mason from Edinburgh, and sent Baxter and his brother Alexander to Italy in 1761 to study architecture. Baxter became known amongst the expatriate artistic community in Rome, and entered a number of architectural competitions during his time there; in March 1766 he was inducted into the Academy of St Luke as an honorary member. Baxter and his father were both protégés of Sir John Clerk, and while in Rome he became acquainted with Alexander Runciman, another friend of Clerk's; a painting of 1767, currently in the Vatican's collection, depicts the two Baxter brothers with Runciman, alongside another artist (thought to be Henry Fuseli). John Baxter (born June 28, 1963) is an American football coach. He is currently the special teams coordinator at Fresno State University. He previously served as special teams coordinator at the University of Southern California. He is also the founder of the education company Academic Gameplan, and author of the 2013 book ''I Hate School: How a College Football Coach Has Inspired Students to Value Education and Become Lifelong Learners'' (). John Baxter, (born 1951) is a British nuclear engineer, and currently the Group Engineering Director at BP. Education Baxter was educated at Strathclyde University, reading mechanical engineering. He studied for a postgraduate degree at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, then trained as a Royal Navy Submarine Officer. Career Baxter was a Submarine Engineer Officer, and served on a Polaris nuclear submarine carrying out refitting. His subsequent career with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority included running the Dounreay and Windscale nuclear sites, and forming Hunting BRAE plc which ran the UK Atomic Weapon plants. In 1996 he was appointed to the UKAEA Board by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. Prior to BP he was the Group Engineering Director of the UK electricity utility Powergen plc. Sir John Philip Baxter (7 May 1905 – 5 September 1989) was a British chemical engineer. He was the second director of the University of New South Wales from 1953, continuing as vice-chancellor when the position's title was changed in 1955. Under his administration, the university grew from its technical college roots into the "fastest growing and most rapidly diversifying tertiary institution in Australia". Philip Baxter College is named in his honour. Baxter was born in Wales, but grew up in England, entering the University of Birmingham at age 16. John Babington Macaulay Baxter (February 16, 1868 – December 27, 1946) was a New Brunswick lawyer, jurist and the 19th premier of New Brunswick. Baxter served in the Canadian Army and was the author of ''Historical Records of the New Brunswick Regiment, Royal Artillery'', the unit he commanded from 1907 to 1912.
