John Anderson (jazz Trumpeter)
John Anderson (January 31, 1921 – August 18, 1974) was an American jazz trumpeter. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he studied at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and the Westlake College of Music. He did a good deal of work in West Coast jazz with Stan Kenton and others. Anderson died in Birmingham in 1974. John Anderson (Scottish Businessman)
John Anderson (1747–1820) was a Scottish businessman and entrepreneur. He was a commercial agent in New York and later a business owner in Cork. His business played a pivotal role in creating infrastructure that connected Dublin to Cork. Anderson purchased land in Fermoy that was later used as a military complex. Career Anderson was born into a poor family at Portland near Dumfries, Scotland and moved to Glasgow in 1784. He later settled in Cork City, at that time the major provisioning centre on the Atlantic Coast. During the American wars he earned considerable sums as a commercial agent in New York, and made extensive land purchases in the Cork area. His Cork enterprise was based at Lapp's Island, and his business acumen was recognised as he grew rapidly in fortune and was appointed to the city's committee of merchants. Sir John Anthony Anderson (2 August 1945 – 13 November 2018) was a New Zealand businessman and sports administrator. He served as Chief Executive and Director of ANZ Bank New Zealand (then ANZ National Bank Ltd) and after retiring at the end of 2005, became the chair of Television New Zealand in April 2006. Early life and family Anderson was born in Wellington, and was educated at Christ's College and Victoria University of Wellington. He married Carol Tuck in 1970, and they had three children. John Anderson (1942 – 7 April 2012) was a co-founder, a director and the chief technology officer of Intelesens Ltd. and HeartSine Technologies Inc. Anderson formed the Northern Ireland Bio-Engineering Centre (NIBEC) and was its first director. He was also the head of the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ulster (Jordanstown), Northern Ireland. He was the head of bioengineering at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Northern Ireland, when the world's first mobile coronary care unit was launched in 1967. Professor Frank Pantridge was responsible for development of the world's first portable defibrillator designed for use outside of hospital, which was subsequently manufactured and sold throughout the world. John Duncan Anderson (1938 – 21 February 2025) was a New Zealand businessman, author and speaker. He was the founder of the travel and leisure company Contiki Tours. Background Anderson was born in Wellington in 1938. He married Ali (Alison), a passenger who fell ill on one of Contiki's first tours, and they went on to have four children. Anderson's parents divorced when he was five years old; he was raised primarily by his mother although maintained a good relationship with his father, a dentist who emigrated to England when he was a child. Anderson emigrated to England in 1961, returning to New Zealand in 1979 with his wife and family. John Anderson (merchant)
Sir John Anderson (1852–1924), was Scottish merchant, of Singapore and Eastcote. He became sole owner of the trading firm of Guthrie & Co, and his "dominating role in rubber production made Anderson the most influential businessman of his generation in Malaya and especially in Singapore." Anderson died at his house, Eastcote Place, near Pinner, Middlesex, on 18 December 1924. His second wife became sole owner of Guthries and its chairman. His third son, Keith became an important figure in the management of Guthries. He is buried at St Martin's Church, Ruislip. References
