Johanna Petersson
Johanna Petersson or Peterson née Eriksson, commonly known as Handelsman Johanna ("Merchant-Johanna"), (1807–1899) was a Swedish businesswoman who contributed to the prosperity of Ödeshög in Östergötland. The shop she opened in the mid-1830s was so successful that she was able to buy several farms in the area. With her earnings, she transformed the village into a small town with cobbled streets, a pharmacy, and a nearby telegraph station. The bank crash of the 1870s brought her success to an abrupt end but she continued to run a small shop. Early life Born on 30 October 1807 in Brodderyd, Ödeshög, in southern Sweden, Johanna Eriksson was the daughter of the judge Nils Eriksson and his wife Stina née Samuelsdotter. She was the second youngest of the family's six children. When 17, she married the farmhand Jonas Peterson with whom she had nine children. Östergötland (; English exonym: East Gothland) is one of the traditional provinces of Sweden (''landskap'' in Swedish) in the south of Sweden. It borders Småland, Västergötland, Närke, Södermanland and the Baltic Sea. In older English literature, the Latinized version ''Ostrogothia'' is also used. Calle Olof Sigvard Örnemark (19 December 1933 – 4 August 2015) was a Swedish artist and sculptor from Jönköping Municipality, Sweden. He is particularly known for his large wooden sculptures, but he also made paintings and metal sculptures. His first large sculpture was ''Jätten Vist'' (the Vist the Giant), completed in 1969 and standing over high next to the European route E4, at Huskvarna. According to the legend, the giant was on his way home from a party in Västergötland. He threw some grass and soil into Lake Vättern for his wife to step on, thus creating the island Visingsö. In the 1980s, his very large outdoor wooden sculptures ''Bounty'' and ''Indiska reptricket'' (the Indian rope trick) at Riddersberg manor, south of Jönköping, drew many visitors. The mobile ''Bounty'' resembled a ship, and the 103-meter-high ''Indiska reptricket'' was the world's tallest sculpture.
