Joe Torres (journalist)
Joe Torres (born June 2, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American journalist and author of Puerto Rican ancestry. Torres is a news anchor and reporter for WABC-TV in New York. Torres serves as a reporter and occasional substitute anchor (usually substituting for Bill Ritter) on the station's weeknight ''Eyewitness News'' broadcast, as well as anchoring the station's Saturday and Sunday night newscasts with Sandra Bookman. Torres also hosts ''Tiempo'', WABC's long-running Hispanic-centric current affairs program that airs on Sunday mornings. Torres received particular acclaim for his coverage of the September 11 attacks. Career Prior to his joining WABC-TV, Torres worked at WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia, WNEP-TV in Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, and WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. Joseph Torres (born September 3, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current assistant pitching coach for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Torres attended Gateway High School in Kissimmee, Florida. As a pitcher for the school's baseball team, he had a 1.58 earned run average (ERA) and 370 strikeouts in innings pitched. As a senior, he had a 0.38 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 55 innings. Torres accepted a scholarship to play college baseball for the University of Miami. The Anaheim Angels selected Torres in the first round, with the 10th overall selection, of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. Torres signed with the Angels, receiving a $2.08 million signing bonus. He pitched for the Boise Hawks in 2000 after he signed. In 2002, he had a 3.52 ERA with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Joseph Paul Torre Jr. (; born July 18, 1940) is an American professional baseball Senior management, executive and former player, Manager (baseball), manager, and television color commentator. He has served as a special assistant to the Commissioner of Major League Baseball since 2020. He previously served in the capacity of Major League Baseball's (MLB) chief baseball officer from 2011 to 2020. Torre ranks fifth all-time in MLB history with 2,326 List of Major League Baseball managers with most career wins, wins as a manager. With 2,342 Hit (baseball), hits during his playing career, Torre is the only major leaguer to achieve both 2,000 hits as a player and 2,000 wins as a manager. Joseph de Torre (May 25, 1932May 31, 2018) was a social and political philosopher and a Roman Catholic priest. He is the author of books on social ethics, Catholic social teaching, modern philosophy and spirituality. He is a member of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, and the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty. De Torre is the author of twenty books and hundreds of essays. He had been living in the Philippines since 1968. He was fluent in Latin, Greek, Spanish and English. Early life De Torre was born in Madrid on 25 May 1932, and educated in Spain and Italy. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Barcelona and a Masters from the Angelicum.
