Jody Williams (born October 9, 1950) is an American political activist known for her work in banning anti-personnel landmines, her defense of human rights (especially those of women), and her efforts to promote new understandings of security in today's world. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for her work toward the banning and clearing of anti-personnel mines. Education Williams earned a Master in International Relations from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (a division of Johns Hopkins University) in Washington, D.C. (1984), an MA in teaching Spanish and English as a second language from the School for International Training (SIT) in Brattleboro, Vermont (1976), and a BA from the University of Vermont (1972). Jody Louise Williams (January 26, 1956 - October 17, 2023) was an American artist, writer, and teacher. She created and published artist's books under the imprint Flying Paper Press in her studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She worked in a range of media, including artist's books, collages, drawings, etchings, bronze sculptures, and mixed-media boxes that she calls not-empty boxes. Williams taught printmaking and book arts at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Joseph Leon "Jody" Williams (February 3, 1935 – December 1, 2018) was an American blues guitarist and singer. His singular guitar playing, marked by flamboyant string-bending, imaginative chord voicings and a distinctive tone, was influential in the Chicago blues scene of the 1950s. In the mid-1950s, Williams was one of the most sought-after session guitarists in Chicago, but he was little known outside the music industry, since his name rarely appeared on discs. Biography Raised in California, Williams came to appreciate food service by assisting customers at her father's hot dog stand in Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco. After relocating to New York City at the age of 24, she set out at 25 to prepare American cuisine across Italy with chef Kathy Casey. There, she learned about Italian cuisine. After she returned to the U.S., she became the chef of Italian restaurant Tappo (literally ''cork'' in Italian) in New York City, now closed. Williams was the chef at Morandi in New York City before she left the restaurant in May 2008. She was the chef of Gottino in New York City, a restaurant known for its wines, until May 2010.
