Joanna Cole (August 11, 1944July 12, 2020) was an American author of children's books, best known as the author of the '' Magic School Bus'' series, which sold more than 93 million copies in 13 countries. She wrote more than 250 books, ranging from her first book ''Cockroaches'' to her famous series ''Magic School Bus'', which is illustrated by Bruce Degen. Early life Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Elizabeth (Reid), a homemaker, and Mario Basilea, a house painter. She grew up in the suburb East Orange. She loved science as a child, and had a teacher that she says acted a little like Ms. Frizzle, but that she did not resemble her physically because her teacher looked "very conservative". Her teacher let students check out one of her science books each week and Cole stated, "I thought that reading science books for pleasure was an ordinary thing". Joanna E. Cole (born January 23, 1948) is an American politician and educator from Burlington, Vermont, in the United States. A member of the Democratic Party, she was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2012, representing the Chittenden-6-1 district, which includes Burlington's New North End. She took office on January 9, 2013. Early life and career Born in Troy, New York and educated at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Cole taught college-level chemistry, including stints at Millersville University of Pennsylvania and Lebanon Valley College. Joanne Cole
Joanne Cole (6 June 1934 – 7 August 1985) was a British artist and illustrator. She most notably produced numerous children's books in the 1960s through to the 1980s. She also created artwork and puppets for British TV children's programmes. Together with husband Michael Cole they created '' Bod''. Bod originally appeared as four books, published in the UK by Methuen in 1965 and later released in France and the United States. The Coles collaborated on other children books including ''Wet Albert'' (1967) about a boy followed around by a rain cloud with crayon drawings by Cole and a series of four ''Kate and Sam'' books (1971) about the over-imaginative ideas of a young brother and sister. She also illustrated seven Jill Tomlinson books, including '' The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'' (1973). Joanna Louise Coles (born 20 April 1962) was chief content officer for Hearst Magazines from 2016 to 2018. She has won awards for journalism, including, when she was editor-in-chief, '' Cosmopolitan’s'' a national magazine award, for a guide to contraception. She won a Matrix Award for Women in Communication in 2013 (where she was introduced by Florida Congresswoman Val Demings), and was named an Editor of the Year by Adweek.
