Jim Fitzgerald (rugby Union)
James Train Fitzgerald (6 August 1928 — 13 May 1993) was a New Zealand rugby union international. Born in Petone, Fitzgerald attended Hutt Valley High School and was a schoolmate of cricketer John Reid. Fitzgerald, an Otago representative early in his career, played rugby at Victoria University and in his first year with Wellington earned All Blacks selection for the 1952 home Bledisloe Cup The Bledisloe Cup is an annual rugby union competition between the national teams of Australia's Wallabies and New Zealand's All Blacks that has been contested since the 1930s. Petone
Petone (Māori language, Māori: ''Pito-one'') is a large suburb of Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. It stands at the southern end of the Hutt Valley, on the northern shore of Wellington Harbour. Europeans first settled in Petone in January 1840, making it the oldest European settlement in the Wellington Region. It became a borough in 1888, and merged with Lower Hutt (branded as "Hutt City") in 1989. Etymology The Māori language , Māori name means "an umbilical chord (''pito'') buried in the sand (''one'')", as a symbolic tethering of a newborn to the Tangata whenua, whenua (land) in Māori culture. The first New Zealand representative match was played in May 1884 against a Wellington XV before the New Zealand team departed for their tour of New South Wales. Christchurch (; ) is the largest city in the South Island and the List of cities in New Zealand, second-largest city by urban area population in New Zealand.
