A gemstone (also called a fine gem, jewel, precious stone, semiprecious stone, or simply gem) is a piece of mineral crystal which, when cut or polished, is used to make jewellery, jewelry or other adornments. Certain Rock (geology), rocks (such as lapis lazuli, opal, and obsidian) and occasionally organic chemistry, organic materials that are not minerals (such as amber, Jet (gemstone), jet, and pearl) may also be used for jewelry and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some softer minerals such as brazilianite may be used in jewelry because of their color or Lustre (mineralogy), luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. However, generally speaking, soft minerals are not typically used as gemstones by virtue of their brittleness and lack of durability. ''Jewels'' is a supporter's album by Einstürzende Neubauten, completed in mid-2007. Instead of being released as a full album, it was released digitally one track at a time, available as website downloads only to subscribers of the Phase III Supporter Project, consisting of 15 "jewels" (as the band called them). Starting in March 2006, these downloadable tracks were released on or around the 15th of each month and were drawn from singer Blixa Bargeld's dreams. Despite the Supporter Project site saying it ''"would form a digital-only album that will not be otherwise available''", the album was eventually re-issued and released commercially through their own Potomak label as ''The Jewels'' in July 2008. ''Jewels'' is a three-act ballet created for the New York City Ballet by co-founder and founding choreographer George Balanchine. It premièred on Thursday, 13 April 1967 at the New York State Theater, with sets designed by Peter Harvey and lighting by Ronald Bates. Jewels is a compilation album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 January 2004. The album was released only in Japan on CD. It's a Japan only 24 bit digitally remastered compilation CD featuring extensive liner notes in Japanese and obi-strip. It was released alongside a DVD that bears the same name, which includes the official videos of the songs that make up the album plus two bonus tracks. On 26 January 2005 was released the album Jewels II in CD format, also only in Japan. To complete the collection, on September 30, 2005, Jewels I & II: Japan Tour 2005 Special Edition was launched to promote the Queen + Paul Rodgers Tour in that country. The Jewels
The Jewels (initially The Impalas, later The Four Jewels) were an American girl group from Washington, D.C., United States. Overview The group began singing as The Impalas in 1961; its members had attended Roosevelt High School and sang in Trinity AME Zion Church. Early on the group began performing in Bo Diddley's basement, and Diddley recorded their debut single "I Need You So Much", which was released on Checker Records. The record never caught on, and in 1962 producer Bob Lee changed the group's name to The Four Jewels. The single "Loaded with Goodies" next appeared on Start Records, a local D.C. label, followed by Chess single "That's What They Put Erasers on Pencils For". They also sang backup vocals for member Grace Ruffin's cousin, Billy Stewart.
