"Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" is a song by American rock band the Killers. It is the opening track of the band's debut album, ''Hot Fuss'' (2004). It was written by Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer. Despite not being a single, "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" is one of the Killers' most popular and critically acclaimed songs. It is particularly praised for Stoermer's powerful and melodic bassline. Writing and composition The song, which is written in the key of E-flat minor, is told from the point of view of a boy who has been taken in for questioning about the murder of a girl named Jenny. After explaining the incident from his perspective, the boy (voiced by Flowers) says, "There ain't no motive for this crime, Jenny was a friend of mine." The song provides no resolution to the crime and it is never clarified if the boy was guilty. The Killers
The Killers are an American Rock music, rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001 by Brandon Flowers (lead vocals, keyboards, bass) and Dave Keuning (lead guitar, backing vocals). Peter Hook
Peter Hook (born 13 February 1956) is an English musician. He was the bassist and co-founder of the post-punk band Joy Division and its successor New Order. He often used the bass as a lead instrument, playing melodies on the high strings with a signature heavy chorus effect. Along with Bernard Sumner, Hook formed the band which was to become Joy Division in 1976. Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band reformed as New Order, and Hook played bass with them until 2007. Oasis are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The song is about a woman named Mary who mysteriously disappears and a social pariah who is accused of orchestrating Mary's disappearance, despite claiming to be innocent.
