Geoffrey Thomas Bennett OBE (1868–1943) was an English mathematician, professor at the University of Cambridge. Life and work Born in London,Sir Norman Godfrey Bennett (1870–1947) was Geoffrey Thomas Bennett's brother. he began his secondary studies at the University College School, under Robert Tucker. After one year at University College of London, Bennett obtained a scholarship at St. John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1890 as Senior Wrangler. However, the best grade in the Mathematical Tripos of that year was for Philippa Fawcett, but she was not included in the list for her gender. Upon completion of his studies he was appointed college lecturer of mathematics at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He held a fellowship at the college from 1893 until his death in 1943. Captain Geoffrey Martin Bennett, (7 June 1909 – 5 September 1983), was a British Royal Navy officer and author. Career Geoffrey Bennett was born in 1909 into a naval family, the son of Paymaster Rear-Admiral Martin Gilbert Bennett, OBE. He attended the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, and entered the service. After his promotion to Lieutenant he qualified as a signals specialist. He became Flag Lieutenant to a number of admirals. In World War II he was first in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and then served as signals officer Force H in the Mediterranean where he earned the Distinguished Service Cross. In 1932 he married Rosemary Bechervaise, always known as "Bud", the daughter of a Portsmouth solicitor whose family originated in Jersey. They had two sons, but after the war Rosemary had a serious mental breakdown which was to recur at intervals for the rest of her life. Bennett was promoted to Commander at the end of World War II. Geoffrey Edwin Bennett (24 February 1924 – 24 June 2014) was a motorcycle speedway rider from England. Biography Bennett, born in Birmingham, was recruited by Tiger Stevenson of the Birmingham Brummies, after Bennett had ridden on continental tracks and had been demobbed from the British Army in 1947. He began his British leagues career riding for Birmingham and then Cradley Heath Cubs during the 1947 Speedway National League Division Three season, where he topped the team's averages. The following year in 1948, he rode for Birmingham, improving his average to 7.91 and winning the National Trophy (tier 2) with the team. The team moved up to the top league in 1949. He also reached the Championship round of the 1949 Individual Speedway World Championship. Jeff Bennett (born August 29, 1948) is a native of Vinita, Oklahoma. He is an American former decathlete who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Athletics in high school and college Bennet has said that he was inspired into entering track and field competition by watching Olympian athletes performing in the 1960 Olympic games pole vault event. In high school he also became interested in long jumping and running hurdles. but the pole vault was still his favorite event. He won the state title when he was a senior, after coming in second in his sophomore and junior years. After high school, he went on to Oklahoma Christian University (OC). When he was a sophomore at OC, he ran the 400-meter hurdles and won the national meet. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for four seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Rays.
