Alfred Jackson "Jay" Powell Jr. (November 18, 1952 – November 26, 2019) was an American politician. He was a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives from the 171st District, serving from 2008 until his death in 2019. Biography Powell was born in Quitman, Georgia to Alfred Jackson "A.J." Powell Sr. and Mary Simpson and graduated from Brooks County High School. He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Florida State University and his J.D. degree from University of Georgia School of Law. Powell was admitted to the Georgia State Bar and practiced law in Camilla, Georgia Camilla is a city in Mitchell County, Georgia, United States, and is its county seat. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 5,187, down from 5,360 in 2010. History The city was incorporated in 1858. The name "Camilla" was chose .... Jerome Hayden "Jay" Powell (born February 4, 1953) is an American investment banker and lawyer who has been the 16th chair of the Federal Reserve since 2018. A native of Washington, D.C., Powell graduated from Princeton University and from the Georgetown University Law Center. After working as an attorney for five years, he switched to investment banking in the mid-1980s and worked for several financial institutions, including as a partner of the Carlyle Group. In 1992, Powell briefly served as under secretary of the Treasury for domestic finance under President George H. W. Bush. Powell left Carlyle Group in 2005 and founded Severn Capital Partners, a private investment firm. He was a visiting scholar at the Bipartisan Policy Center from 2010 to 2012 before returning to public service.
