Janus van Kasteren Jr. (born 10 September 1986) is a Dutch rally driver and businessman. He is the owner of Boss Machinery company, a heavy machinery supplier based out of Veldhoven. van Kasteren is best known for his participation in rally raid events in rally trucks. He is the winner of the 2023 Dakar Rally in the trucks category. 2022 Dakar Rally
The 2022 Dakar Rally was a rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia and the 44th edition of the Dakar Rally organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). The event took place between 1–14 January 2022. This was the third time Saudi Arabia had hosted the event, with support from the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation. The race started in Ha'il and ended in Jeddah, going through canyons and cliffs in the Neom region, passing by the Red Sea coastline, into the stretches of dunes surrounding Riyadh, with a lot more action on sand dunes in the Empty Quarter. The route consisted of one prologue stage and 12 normal stages, with one rest day in Riyadh on 8 January. When ASO signed the five-year deal with Saudi Arabia, there was a first-year exclusivity clause. Since it has expired, more countries could have been added to the route. The Dakar Rally () or simply "The Dakar" (), formerly known as the Paris–Dakar Rally (), is an annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). It is an off-road endurance event traversing terrain much tougher than conventional rallying, and the vehicles used are typically true off-road vehicles and motorcycles, rather than modified on-road vehicles. Most of the competitive special sections are off-road, crossing dunes, mud, camel grass, rocks, and erg. Stages vary from short distances up to per day. The rough terrain, driver fatigue, and lack of skill usually results in accidents and serious injuries. The event began in 1978 as a rally from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal. Dmitry Sergeyevich Sotnikov (; born 29 May 1985) is a Russian rally raid driver who specializes in the truck category. He is a two-time Dakar Rally and a three-time Silk Way Rally champion. Career Sotnikov made his Dakar Rally debut in the 2014 edition, finishing in 4th position in the general classification; in the following edition he obtained the 5th position. In Dakar 2017, he achieved his best performance at the time, finishing in second position behind his Kamaz Master teammate Eduard Nikolaev. His best performance on that event happened in 2021 and 2022, when at the end he finished first with five stage wins in both events. 2024 Dakar Rally
The 2024 Dakar Rally was a rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia. It was the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally, organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), and the 5th time Saudi Arabia has hosted the event. The event took place between 5 and 19 January 2024. For the third year running, the event was also the first round of the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship. The outline of the race route was presented on 3 June 2023. This year the route started at Al-'Ula, then across the Empty Quarter, and finished in Yanbu. The race format consisted of a prologue and 12 stages, including a 48-hour marathon stage - dubbed as a '48h chrono stage', which covered over 600km with a midnight halt. The new format marathon stage included time limit for stopping at 4pm, and setting off the next day at 7am.
