Janet Petro
Janet E. Petro is an American engineer and civil servant currently serving as the acting administrator of NASA and the 11th director of the agency’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC). When she was appointed KSC director on June 30, 2021, by then-NASA administrator Bill Nelson, Petro made history as the first woman to hold the position. She later assumed the role of acting administrator on January 20, 2025, following her appointment by President Donald Trump, becoming the first woman to hold that role as well. Education and early life Born in Michigan, Janet Petro's father moved the family to the Florida space coast when he received a job from NASA to work on the Kennedy Space Center's Mercury and Gemini Programs. Kennedy Space Center
The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC, originally known as the NASA Launch Operations Center), located on Merritt Island, Florida, is one of the NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) ten NASA facilities#List of field centers, field centers. The Silver Snoopy award is a special honor awarded to NASA employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. The award certificate states that it is "In Appreciation" "For professionalism, dedication and outstanding support that greatly enhanced space flight safety and mission success." Florida Women's Hall Of Fame
The Florida Women's Hall of Fame is an honor roll of women who have contributed to life for citizens of the US state of Florida. An awards ceremony for the hall of fame was first held in 1982 and recipient names are displayed in the Florida State Capitol. The program was created by an act of the Florida Legislature and is overseen by the Florida Commission on the Status of Women (FCSW), a Nonpartisanism, nonpartisan board created in 1991 to study and "make recommendations to the Governor, Cabinet and Legislature on issues affecting women".
