''Jane'' is a 1915 American silent film produced by the Oliver Morosco company and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is based on a stage play ''Jane'' by W.H. Lestocq and Harry Nicholls. Frank Lloyd directed, early in his career, and up-and-coming stage comic Charlotte Greenwood debuts and stars in her first motion picture. This was Lloyd's second directed feature film after several years of making shorts. Frank Lloyd
Frank William George Lloyd (2 February 1886 – 10 August 1960) was a British-born American film director, actor, scriptwriter, and producer. He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was its president from 1934 to 1935. Biography Lloyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother Jane was Scottish and his father Edmund was Welsh. Lloyd started his career as a singer and stage actor in London. He is Scotland's first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history, having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film ('' The Divine Lady''), a part-talkie ('' Weary River'') and a full talkie (''Drag''). He won for ''The Divine Lady''. He was nominated and won again in 1933 for his adaptation of Noël Coward's ''Cavalcade'' and received a further Best Director nomination in 1935 for perhaps his most successful film, ''Mutiny on the Bounty''. Herbert Standing
Herbert Standing (13 November 1846 – 5 December 1923) was a British stage and screen actor and the patriarch of the Standing family of actors. He was the father of numerous children, many of whom had careers in theatre and cinema. Toward the end of his life, he appeared in many Hollywood silent films. Standing began in theatre in 1867, and turned to films in 1913. Standing's children include Sir Guy Standing, Wyndham Standing, Percy Standing, Jack Standing, Herbert Standing Jr. and Aubrey Standing. Lydia Yeamans Titus (12 December 1857 – 30 December 1929) was an Australian-born American singer, dancer, comedienne, and actress who had a lengthy career in vaudeville and cinema. She was remembered on stage for her ''Baby-Talk'' act and a popular rendition of the English ballad, ''Sally in Our Alley''. Oliver Morosco
Oliver Morosco (June 20, 1875 – August 25, 1945) was an American theatrical producer, director, writer, film producer, and theater owner. He owned the Morosco Photoplay Company. He brought many of his theater actors to the screen. Frank A. Garbutt was in charge of the film business. The company was merged with Adolph Zukor's Famous Players-Lasky Corporation in 1916. Biography He was born Oliver Mitchell in Logan, Utah, to John Leslie Mitchell and Esmah Badure Montrose. The Mitchells divorced, and Esmah Mitchell took her two sons to California, eventually arriving in San Francisco. At the age of six, Oliver and his brother Leslie, three years his elder, were hired by Walter M. Morosco (1846–1901) to perform in his acrobatic troupe, the Royal Russian Circus, then a regular attraction at Woodward's Gardens, a popular San Francisco amusement park.
