Jana (singer)
Dragana Todorović (; sr-cyr, Драгана Тодоровић ; born 15 March 1974), known by her stage name Jana ( sr-cyr, Јана), is a Serbian turbo-folk and pop folk singer. Biography Jana was born in Pristina on March 15, 1974 and grew up in the village of Babin Most, near the town of Obilić, SFR Yugoslavia. Her career started at the age of fourteen, in 1988, when she visited a well-known kafana in the town of Obilić one night with her parents and brother (who played the accordion). She had worn a white overcoat and pink hat. During dinner, she took the microphone, got a chair, and, being shy, turned her back against the audience and started singing "Što me pitaš" (''Why Are You Asking Me'') by Šemsa Suljaković to roaring applause. After finishing the Stevan Mokranjac music academy in her hometown, she recorded an album in 1992 that sold very few copies and flopped. Pristina
Pristina or Prishtina ( , ), . is the capital and largest city of Kosovo. It is the administrative center of the eponymous municipality and District of Pristina, district. In antiquity, the area of Pristina was part of the Dardanian Kingdom. The heritage of the classical era is represented by the settlement of Ulpiana. After the Roman Empire was divided into a western and an eastern half, the area remained within the Byzantine Empire between the 5th and 9th centuries. Šemsa Suljaković
Šemsa Suljaković (born 29 September 1951) is a Bosnian folk singer. Early life Suljaković was born in Maglaj, Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, PR Bosnia and Herzegovina, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, FPR Yugoslavia. She was born as the eldest of six children into an ethnic Bosniak family. Career Suljaković's singing career began after her mother moved the family to their grandparents' home in the Širokača neighborhood of Sarajevo. Their neighbor Sena was a folk singer married to an accordionist and performed at a local kafana frequently. One night, Sena persuaded Šemsa to come with her to the kafana. That night Šemsa discovered her talent for singing and the next day the owner of the kafana asked her to start singing there nightly. Her music career officially began in 1971. Aleksandar "Saša" Matić ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Саша Матић; born 26 April 1978) is a Bosnian Serb pop-folk singer. He is the twin brother of fellow singer Dejan Matić. Life and career Early life Matić was born on 26 April 1978 in Bihać, SFR Yugoslavia. He has a twin brother, Dejan, who is also a well-known singer. They were born prematurely and subsequently became completely blind due to unexplained circumstances. Matić initially grew up in Drvar, before moving to Belgrade with his family. Dragana Mirković
Dragana Mirković ( sr-Cyrl, Драгана Мирковић, ; born 18 January 1968) is a Serbian pop-folk singer and entrepreneur. She rose to prominence in the eighties as a member of the popular collective Južni Vetar. Mirković is recognised as one of the most successful artists from the former Yugoslavia, with collective sales of 10 million records. Alongside her husband, she also founded a satellite music channel called DM SAT. The Kosovo War (; sr-Cyrl-Latn, Косовски рат, Kosovski rat) was an armed conflict in Kosovo that lasted from 28 February 1998 until 11 June 1999. It was fought between the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), which controlled Kosovo before the war, and the Kosovo Albanian separatist militia known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Grand Hotel Prishtina
The Grand Hotel Prishtina is a hotel situated in the Mother Theresa Boulevard in downtown Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. Originally projected by the Kosovar architect Bashkim Fehmiu together with the two Serbian architects Dragan Kovačević and Miša Jevremović, its building started in 1974 and was completed in 1978. The hotel features 350 rooms spread out on 13 floors, and covers a total area of over 32.000m². Today, however, only 1% of the rooms in the hotel are used for guests. In an article in 2018 by the New York Times, Grand Hotel Prishtina was rated as "the worst hotel in the world".
