Jammu And Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (or J&K PCC) is a state unit of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is responsible for organizing and coordinating the party's activities and campaigns within the region, as well as selecting candidates for local, state, and national elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee is currently headed by Mr. Vikar Rasool Wani. Ghulam Nabi Azad
Ghulam Nabi Azad (born 7 March 1949) is an Indian politician who served as Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha between 2014 to 2021. He also served as the Chief Minister of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008. On 26 September 2022, Azad announced his own political party as Democratic Azad Party. He is the chief patron cum founder of Democratic Azad Party. Azad served as Minister of Health and Family Welfare. He has served as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the Manmohan Singh government until 27 October 2005, when he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. On 26 August 2022, Azad resigned from Indian National Congress and mulled creating a new party at the national level. Bhim Singh (politician)
Bhim Singh (17 August 1941 – 31 May 2022) was an Indian politician, activist, lawyer and author. He was the founder, president and chief patron of the socialist and secular Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP). Singh was Panthers Party chairman for 30 years from 1982-2012, chief patron from 2012-2021, and president from 14 February 2021-31 May 2022. In effect with over 40 years of controlling leadership, he was India’s longest serving political party leader, and one of the longest serving leaders in the world. Singh was an elected member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from 1977 until 1987, from Chenani-Ghordi (Udhampur). As party leader, he contested the 1988 Udhampur by-election to the Lok Sabha. Elections for the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir were held over June 1977, which are generally regarded as the first 'free and fair' elections in the state. Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, newly revived from the former Plebiscite Front, won an overwhelming majority and re-elected Sheikh Abdullah as the Chief Minister. Syed Mir Qasim
Syed Mir Qasim (1921 - 12 December 2004) was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 1971 to 1975. Syed Mir Qasim's political career first began during the British Raj, when he became a leader of the non-sectarian, pro-democracy Quit Kashmir political movement. His advocacy against the monarchical rule of Maharaja Hari Singh resulted in his imprisonment. After India's independence, Syed Mir Qasim was involved with the drafting of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. He went on to serve in various State and Union positions. 1972 Jammu And Kashmir Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly were held in January 1972 to elect members of 114 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Indian National Congress won the popular vote and a majority of seats and Syed Mir Qasim was appointed as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. After this election, women entered the Jammu and Kashmir assembly for the first time. Ten women had filed their nominations, six of them contested and four won their seats.
