Robert Conroy Goldston
Robert Conroy Goldston (9 July 1927 in New York – 1982) was an American history writer and the son of Philip Henry Goldston and Josephine Conroy. He lived in Los Angeles for some time and then settled on Ibiza in the Balearic Islands, having married Marguerite Garvey, a classical pianist, on 3 January 1956, the union producing five daughters and a son. Goldston was educated in Los Angeles, the Midwest and attended Columbia University between 1946 and 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, did some sailing on the Great Lakes and at one time was a science-fiction cover artist under the pseudonym James Stark for ''Nebula Science Fiction''. (example: December 1956 and May 1957 Nebula Science Fiction) He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in fiction in 1957-8. James Stark (painter)
James Stark (19 November 1794 – 24 March 1859) was an English landscape painter. A leading member of the Norwich School of painters, he was elected vice-president of the Norwich Society of Artists in 1828 and became their president in 1829. He had wealthy patrons and was consistently praised by the Norfolk press for his successful London career. Stark was born in Norwich, the youngest son of an important dye manufacturer, Michael Stark, who is credited with the invention of the dye known as 'Norwich red'. On the completion of his education at Norwich School in 1811, he was apprenticed to John Crome, whose influence on his pupil was profound. His work was exhibited in London as early as 1811 and at the British Institution from 1814–18. In 1814 he moved away from Norwich to London, where he befriended the artist William Collins. James Stark (actor)
James Stark (1819 – October 12, 1875) was a British North America-born American actor best known for appearances in tragedy. Stark was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, but his career was largely spent in California during pioneer days. Stark came west with the Gold Rush to first perform in Sacramento. With wife Sarah Kirby Stark, he brought the first successful dramatic season to San Francisco. He was particularly known for his portrayal of Cardinal Richelieu in the play of the same name, and for his portrayal of Hamlet and other Shakespearean characters. Around 1848, he was a member of the stock company at the Richmond Theatre in Virginia. In New York City, he played the Park Theatre in 1846 with John Collins in ''The Irish Ambassador'', as Prince Rudolf; with Charles Kean and his wife, the former Ellen Tree, in '' The Two Gentlemen of Verona'' and ''King John''; and with James Robertson Anderson in the new play ''King of the Commons''. James Stark of Huntfield FRSE FSSA FRCPE (9 November 1811–2 July 1890) was a 19th-century Scottish physician who became the first Superintendent of Statistics in Scotland. He created the concept of vital statistics in 1854. Life He was born on 9 November 1811 at 2 Bristo Street in Edinburgh's South Side, the son of Emma Brown (d.1815) and her husband, John Stark. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and undertook postgraduate studies in Paris and Bonn gaining his doctorate (MD) from Edinburgh in 1833. He then set up as a GP in the city at 21 Rutland Street in the West End of the city. In 1839 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and became Curator of their museum.
