James Smith (record Executive)
James Prince (born James Andre Smith; October 31, 1965) is an American record executive, music promoter and talent manager. He founded the Houston-based Southern hip-hop record label Rap-A-Lot Records in 1986, which has discovered or signed artists including the groups Geto Boys, Do or Die, UGK, the respective solo careers of Scarface, Bun B and Pimp C, as well as rappers Devin the Dude, Z-Ro, and Trae tha Truth. He and his son Jas have been credited as an early career mentors for Canadian rapper Drake. Prince executively produced albums for the Geto Boys ('' Grip It! Joseph Wayne McVey (born January 19, 1977), better known by his stage names Z-Ro and the Mo City Don, is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He was named one of America's most underrated rappers by ''The New York Times'' in 2007. Early life Z-Ro was born Joseph Wayne McVey in Houston's South Park neighborhood on January 19, 1977. When he was six, his mother died, and he was shuttled from household to household in search of stability, eventually settling in the Ridgemont area, a middle-class neighborhood in Southwest Houston near the suburb of Missouri City. ''Somethin' Serious'' is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Big Mike of the Geto Boys. It was released on June 28, 1994, by Rap-A-Lot Records and Priority Records. It was produced by N.O. Joe, Troy Clark, Pimp C, John Bido, Mike Dean, Crazy C, and Mike B. It features guest appearances from UGK, Scarface, and Mr. 3-2. The album peaked at number 40 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart and at number 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Joe, Scarface, and Tone Capone. This album is one of the few to receive a perfect rating from both '' The Source'' and '' XXL''.
