The James River is a medium-sized river in central Alberta. It is a tributary of the Red Deer River. Geography The river forms in the Rocky Mountains and flows eastward before joining the Red Deer River. The Forestry Trunk Road follows the river for much of its course. The James River is also bridged by Alberta Highway 22 near the unincorporated community of James River Bridge. Wildlife Species of fish commonly found in the river include the brown trout, rainbow trout, mountain whitefish, northern pike and a few others. The James River (also known as the Jim River or the Dakota River) is a tributary of the Missouri River, approximately 710 miles (1,140 km) long, draining an area of 20,653 square miles (53,490 km2) in the U.S. states of North Dakota and South Dakota. About 70 percent of the drainage area is in South Dakota. The river provides the main drainage of the flat lowland area of the Dakotas between the two plateau regions known as the Missouri Coteau and the Coteau des Prairies. This narrow area was formed by the James lobe of the Laurentide Ice Sheet during the last ice age, and as a consequence the watershed of the river is slender and it has few major tributaries for a river of its length. The James River is located in Kimble and Mason Counties, in the U.S. state of Texas. The Llano River in Mason County is the location of the mouth of the James River, and it flows southeast for past the Kimble County ghost town of Noxville. The river intersects with the James River Spring and with the Little Devils River in southeastern Kimble County. The valleys along the James River became sites for 19th-century European settlements. The river is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts of whitewater kayaking and rafting. James River Corporation was an American pulp and paper company based in Richmond, Virginia, once the largest paper manufacturer in the world. History The company was founded in 1969 as the James River Paper Company by Brenton Halsey and Robert Williams, with the purchase of Ethyl Corporation's Specialty Papers Division. Halsey and Williams were both former employees of Albemarle Paper Manufacturing Company; the city of Richmond lies along the James River. The company changed its name to the James River Corporation in 1973, and it acquired the Brown Company subsidiary of Gulf and Western Industries in 1980 and the Dixie/Northern division of American Can Company in 1982. James River Correctional Center
James River Correctional Center was an American medium-security state-run prison, correctional facility in Goochland County, Virginia, Goochland County near Crozier, Virginia. Opened in 1896, it was the oldest prison in Virginia. The correctional center housed approximately 450 male prisoners and employed 160 staff. The facility was closed effective April 1, 2011, due to a proposed state budget cut of $10.9 million for the following fiscal year.
