James Reed (soldier)
James Reed (born c. 1722–1807) was a military officer in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution, rising to the rank of brigadier general in the latter conflict. Biography Reed was born in Lunenburg or Woburn, Province of Massachusetts Bay. In 1742, James married Abigail Hinds, whose father was Hopestill Hinds. Abigail was born 4 March 1723 in Brookfield, Massachusetts, but is said to have been living in New Salem, Massachusetts. During the French and Indian War, Reed served as an officer in Colonel Brown's Massachusetts Regiment, becoming a lieutenant colonel. He was at Fort Ticonderoga in both 1758 and when it fell in 1759. He was the original proprietor of Monadnock township no. 4, now Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. With news of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, James Reed gathered the local militia and marched to Boston. Isidor George Beaver (December 1859 – 24 October 1934), sometimes misspelt "Isidore" and "Beevor", and frequently initialised as "J. G. Beaver", was an architect from England who had a substantial career in Adelaide, South Australia and Melbourne, Victoria. He was also significant in the early history of ice skating in Australia. Early life Isidor George Beaver was born between September and December 1859, the son of watchmaker and jeweller Louis Beaver of Manchester, England, a Jewish émigré from Prussian Poland. He had two sisters, Evelyn and Laura, who migrated to Melbourne and Adelaide respectively before Isidor left England. His given name was often later misspelt as "Isidore", and his surname as "Beavor" or "Beevor", and he was often referred to "J. G. Beaver", even in his own advertisements. It documents a year spent by filmmaker Craig Foster forging a relationship with a wild common octopus in a South African kelp forest. The film won Best Documentary Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards. James Andrew Reed , CCMI, FCIPD (born 12 April 1963) is a British businessman. He is chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Reed group of companies. He is the son of Sir Alec Reed, who founded the company in 1960. He is chairman of The Big Give Trust, a match-funding charity supported in part by the Reed Foundation and the Reed family. The Big Give has raised over £346 million for UK-registered charities, with a target of £1 billion by 2030. James Earl Reed
James Earl Reed (November 26, 1958 – June 20, 2008) was an American convicted murderer put to death in the state of South Carolina by electrocution in "Old Sparky", the state's electric chair. He remains the most recent person executed in South Carolina via electrocution. Killings Reed and 28-year-old Laurie Rego dated briefly while they were both in the United States Army. Sometime after Rego tried to end the relationship, Reed pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to 37 months in prison. While incarcerated, he wrote numerous threatening letters to Rego. In May 1994, Reed was released from prison. Shortly afterwards he bought a gun and hitchhiked to the home of Rego's parents, Joseph and Barbara Ann Lafayette, who lived in Adams Run, South Carolina, looking for her. Robert James Reed was a Canadian journalist, producer and news anchor, best known for his work on W5, a CTV Television Network current affairs program. Early life Reed was born in Goderich, Ontario in 1938. He had three sons. Broadcasting career Reed joined W5, a national Canadian newsmagazine and current affairs program, in 1972 as a producer. His notable achievements with W5 included an interview with Susan Nelles, a nurse falsely accused in the Toronto hospital baby deaths in 1980 and 1981, and the first North American interview with Yasser Arafat in 1981. Subsequent to this, Reed worked for 12 years as a journalist at CBC News, and also worked for TVO and as a freelance journalist for The Associated Press, ''The New York Times'', and ''The Globe and Mail''. Terence James Reed, FBA (born 1937), known professionally as Jim Reed, is a scholar of German literature. He was Taylor Professor of the German Language and Literature at the University of Oxford from 1989 to 2004. Born in 1937, Reed completed his undergraduate studies at Brasenose College, Oxford, where he was also a junior research fellow from 1961 to 1963. In 1963, he was elected to a fellowship at St John's College, Oxford, where he remained until taking up the Taylor Chair of the German Language and Literature at the University of Oxford in 1989 (whereupon he was elected to a fellowship at The Queen's College, Oxford). Mathis James Reed (September 6, 1925 – August 29, 1976) was an American blues musician and songwriter. His particular style of electric blues was popular with a wide variety of audiences. James Hay Reed (September 10, 1853 – June 17, 1927) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. With partner Philander C. Knox, he formed the law firm of Knox and Reed. Early life and education Born on September 10, 1853, in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, Reed received a Master of Arts degree in 1872 from the Western University of Pennsylvania (now the University of Pittsburgh) and read law in 1875.
