James Massey (footballer Born 1869)
James Massey (26 January 1869 – 2 December 1960) was an English footballer who played as goalkeeper for Denaby United, Mexborough, Doncaster Rovers and The Wednesday in the late 1800s and the early 20th century. Born in Monmore Green, Wolverhampton Massey moved to Yorkshire where he played for Denaby and then Mexborough before signing for Doncaster Rovers in 1890, who were then playing in the Midland Football Alliance League. Two days after winning the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup on 21 March 1891 against Sheffield United, Massey represented the Sheffield and Hallamshire F.A. in a match against the Berks and Bucks F.A., something he did on other occasions too. Massey moved to The Wednesday in 1893 where he played in the Football League until 1901. Monmore Green is an area of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. It is situated about to the south-east of the city centre, in the East Park ward. William Allan (26 August 1870 – 1948) was a Scottish association football, footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper in the English Football League for Sheffield Wednesday F.C., Sheffield Wednesday. He was the ''Owls'' regular goalkeeper for their first three seasons in the league, but lost his place to Jimmy Massey (footballer), Jimmy Massey and took no part in the winning run to the 1895–96 FA Cup, having already departed at the start of 1896. League competitions Football League Following the collapse of Middlesbrough Ironopolis and the resignation of Northwich Victoria, three new teams were admitted to the Second Division, bringing it to 16 teams. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. The Football League Second Division was the second level division in the English football league system between 1892 and 1992. Following the foundation of the FA Premier League, the Football League divisions were renumbered and the third tier became known as the Football League Second Division.
