James H. Wilkinson Prize In Numerical Analysis And Scientific Computing
The James H. Wilkinson Prize in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing is awarded every four years by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The award, named in honor of James H. Wilkinson, is made for research in, or other contributions to, numerical analysis and scientific computing during the 6 years preceding the year of the award. The prizewinner receives the prize, with $2000 (US), at the autumn conference of SIAM and gives a lecture there. It is intended to stimulate younger scientists in the early years of their careers. Society For Industrial And Applied Mathematics
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is a professional society dedicated to applied mathematics, computational science, and data science through research, publications, and community. SIAM is the world's largest scientific society devoted to applied mathematics, and roughly two-thirds of its membership resides within the United States. Assyr Abdulle
Assyr Abdulle (19 January 1971 – 1 September 2021) was a Swiss mathematician. He specialized in numerical mathematics. Biography Abdulle earned a doctorate in mathematics under Gerhard Wanner and Ernst Hairer at the University of Geneva with the thesis ''Méthodes de Chebyshev basées sur des polynômes orthogonaux''. He also earned a degree in violin and music from the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève in 1993. From 2001 to 2002, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University and worked at the computational laboratory at ETH Zurich from 2002 to 2003. In 2003, he became an assistant professor at the University of Basel and an associate professor at the University of Edinburgh in 2007. He then became a full professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. At the school, he started the master's degree in computational science. Stefan Güttel
Stefan Dietrich Güttel (born 27 November 1981) is a German numerical analyst. He is Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manchester. Güttel was born in Dresden, and was educated at the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, from which he gained his MSc in Applied Mathematics (2006) and PhD in Applied Mathematics (2010). His PhD thesis ''Rational Krylov Methods for Operator Functions'' was supervised by Michael Eiermann. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Geneva (2010–2011) and the University of Oxford (2011–2012). Lek-Heng Lim
Lek-Heng Lim () is a Singaporean mathematician. Lim earned a bachelor's degree at the National University of Singapore, studied for his master's at Cornell University and the University of Cambridge, and completed a doctorate at Stanford University. Lim started his teaching career at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as Charles Morrey Assistant Professor. He later joined the University of Chicago faculty. Lexing Ying
Lexing Ying is a professor of mathematics at Stanford University, where he is also a member of the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering. He specializes in scientific computing and numerical analysis. In particular, his research concerns the design of numerical algorithms for problems in scientific computing.
