Jim Gerard
Richard James Gerard (born 20 October 1936) is a former New Zealand politician. He was a National Party Member of Parliament from 1984 to 1997. Early life Gerard was born on 20 October 1936 in Canterbury. His father was the National MP Geoff Gerard. Gerard received his education at Christ's College and then became a sheep farmer in Cheviot. He held several roles with Federated Farmers. Political career Gerard served on the Oxford County Council for some time. He was the National Party chair of the Rangiora electorate for eight years. Member of Parliament He was first elected to Parliament in the 1984 election, replacing the retiring Derek Quigley in the Rangiora electorate. He remained MP for Rangiora until the 1996 election, when the electorate was abolished. James Gerard (clergyman)
James Gerard (c.1740 – 1789) was a Clergyman and Warden of Wadham College, Oxford. Education He was educated at John Roysse's Free School in Abingdon, (now Abingdon School) from 1751-1757. He was Artium Magister (A.M) (13 July 1765), B.D (17 June 1777) and Doctor of Divinity (20 June 1777) Career He was the Warden of Wadham College, Oxford from 5 May 1777 until 1783. The warden was the term used by Wadham for the head of the college. He gained an ecclesiastical preferment as rector of Monks Risborough in 1783. He started his appointment at Monks Risborough on 9 July 1783 on his father's (Joseph Gerard) cession. Personal life He married and had one child and his mother was Elizabeth Reynolds. James Gilbert Gerard (1795 – 31 March 1835) was a Scottish surgeon and explorer. Biography Gerard son of Gilbert Gerard, D.D, brother of Alexander and of Patrick Gerard, was born in 1795. Probably he is the ‘Gerard, Jacobus, Aberdoniensis,’ who entered the King's or Marischal College as in 1807, but there is some doubt. On 27 November 1814 he was appointed assistant-surgeon on the Bengal establishment and became surgeon 5 May 1826. He accompanied his brother Alexander in several of his Himalayan journeys, and was author of ‘Observations on the Spité Valley and the circumjacent Country within the Himalayas’ in ‘Asiat. Researches’ (1833), xviii. 238–79, and of the ‘Account of a Visit to the Shotool and Borendo Passes’ in Sir William Lloyd's book. James Joseph Gerrard
James Joseph Gerrard (June 9, 1897 – June 3, 1991) was a bishop of the Catholic Church in the United States. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Fall River from 1959 to 1976. Biography Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, James Gerrard was educated at Holy Family High School in New Bedford and St. Laurent College in Montreal. He studied for the priesthood at St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, New York and was ordained a priest on May 26, 1923, for the Diocese of Fall River. On February 2, 1959 Pope John XXIII appointed him as the Titular Bishop of ''Forma'' and Auxiliary Bishop of Fall River. He was consecrated by Bishop James Connolly on March 19, 1959. The principal co-consecrators were Bishop Russell McVinney of Providence and Auxiliary Bishop Jeremiah Minihan of Boston. Gerrard attended the second session of the Second Vatican Council.
