James Eadie (brewer)
James Eadie (1827–1904) was a Scottish brewer who founded an eponymous brewery in Burton on Trent which operated for 90 years. Eadie was born at Blackford, Perthshire one of the 14 children of William Eadie and his wife Mary Stewart and was baptised on 12 Jan 1827. His father had founded a small brewhouse at Blackford in the early 19th century as part of a posting hotel with livery stables on Moray Street. In 1842 Eadie moved to Fazeley. Staffordshire where his brother John (1811-1883) was a tea dealer. Burton On Trent
Burton upon Trent, also known as Burton-on-Trent or simply Burton, is a market town in the borough of East Staffordshire in the county of Staffordshire, England, close to the border with Derbyshire. In 2011, it had a population of 72,299. The demonym for residents of the town is ''Burtonian''. Burton is located south-west of Derby, north-west of Leicester, west-south-west of Nottingham and south of the southern entrance to the Peak District National Park. Burton is known for its brewing. The town grew up around Burton Abbey. Burton Bridge was also the site of two battles, in 1322, when Edward II defeated the rebel Earl of Lancaster and in 1643 when royalists captured the town during the First English Civil War. William Lord Paget and his descendants were responsible for extending the manor house within the abbey grounds and facilitating the extension of the River Trent Navigation to Burton. John Eadie (cricketer)
John Thom Clarke Eadie (25 September 1861 – 19 August 1923) was an English brewer and cricketer who played for Derbyshire in 1882. Eadie was born in Burton-on-Trent Staffordshire, the son of James Eadie and his wife Jean. His father, who was from Scotland, had established the James Eadie brewery company at Burton in 1854. In 1881 Eadie was a clerk in his father's brewery. Eadie appeared in one match for Derbyshire during the 1882 season, against Lancashire. He finished not out in the first innings but was out for a duck in the second, bowling economically and taking one wicket during the match. Eadie died at Lichfield at the age of 62. Eadie's brother, William Eadie and nephew Kenneth Dobson both played first-class cricket for Derbyshire. Bass Brewery
The Bass Brewery () was founded in 1777 by William Bass in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The main brand was Bass Pale Ale, once the highest-selling beer in the UK. By 1877, Bass had become the largest brewery in the world, with an annual output of one million barrels. Its pale ale was exported throughout the British Empire, and the company's iconic red triangle became the UK's first registered trade mark. Bass took control of a number of other large breweries in the early 20th century, and in the 1960s merged with Charrington United Breweries to become the largest UK brewing company, Bass Charrington. The brewing operations of the company were bought by Interbrew (now Anheuser-Busch InBev) in 2000, while the retail side (hotels and pubs) were renamed Six Continents plc. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. William Eadie (cricketer)
William Stewart Eadie (27 November 1864 – 20 September 1914) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1885 and 1899. Early years Eadie was born in Burton-on-Trent Staffordshire, the son of James Eadie and his wife Jean. His father, who was from Scotland, had established the James Eadie brewery company at Burton in 1854. Career Eadie made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1885 season. For the years 1887 to 1893 Eadie played over 30 matches for the club while it was without first-class status. He then played first-class again intermittently until the 1899 season. He was a right arm batsman who played 41 innings in 23 first-class matches for Derbyshire, with a top score of 62 and an average of 10.5. Death Eadie died at Barrow upon Trent at the age of 49. Blackford, Perth And Kinross
Blackford (Scottish Gaelic: ''Srath Gaoithe'') is located in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, approximately from the town of Auchterarder. The village is located just off the A9 between Perth and Stirling which has been bypassed since 1978. It is home to Highland Spring water and the Tullibardine whisky distillery. Prehistory Archaeological work between 2006-08 ahead of the development of a golf course found extensive remains of prehistoric settlements. The county town is Banff, although the largest settlement is Buckie to the west.
