James Michael Clarke (6 October 1874 – 29 December 1929) was an Irish tug of war competitor who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. James Fernandez Clarke
James Fernandez Clarke (1812–1876) was an English surgeon and medical writer. Life Clarke was born at Olney, Buckinghamshire; his father and grandfather were prosperous lace merchants. After one or two brief apprenticeships, in 1828 he was placed under C. Snitch, a general practitioner, in Brydges Street, Covent Garden. Here he managed to get the run of Thomas Cadell the younger's library in the Strand, and became acquainted with literature and literary people. In October 1833 Clarke entered at Dermott's Medical School in Gerrard Street, Soho, as a medical student. For a time he acted as Dermott's amanuensis, and afterwards aided Michael Ryan in the ''London Medical and Surgical Journal''. In 1834 Robert Liston noticed a report by Clarke of one of his cases, and introduced him to Thomas Wakley, editor of ''The Lancet''; who took on Clarke. James Clarke (VC)
Regimental Sergeant Major James Clarke VC (6 April 1894 – 16 June 1947) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was born in Winsford, Cheshire. Leaving school at the age of 14, he worked as a day-labourer, before enlisting in the Lancashire Fusiliers in October 1915. He was 24 years old and an acting company sergeant major in the 15th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, British Army during the First World War when he performed the deeds which resulted in the award of the Victoria Cross. His citation reads: The forename in the original citation was subsequently corrected. He did not find much success in civilian life. On 8 June 1946, Clarke participated in the World War II Victory Parade. He died the following year of pneumonia. James Clarke ( 27 May 1798 – 23 September 1861) was an English antiquary, archaeologist, shopkeeper, and amateur poet. He published numerous minor articles on the antiquities of his home county, Suffolk, and a volume of doggerel verse. Biography James Clarke was born to William Clarke and his wife, Mary Cook, in Bedingfield, Suffolk. He was baptised on 27 May 1798. His first occupation was as a grocer and draper in Suffolk, his shop established opposite the gates of Easton Park, the residence of the dukes of Hamilton, and near Wickham Market. On 12 April 1821, he married Jane Louisa Clamp, ''née'' Clonmel. Together, they had four children - three sons and a daughter - between 1826 and 1844. Clarke was a keen antiquary, particularly for those antiquities of his local area. In 1847, he became an associate of the British Archaeological Association (BAA), which, the BAA stated in their obituary of Clarke, "proved a great source of improvement and enjoyment" for him. James William Clarke (born 18 September 1982) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder or defender. He began his career with Mansfield Town in 2002, and went on to join Rochdale in 2004 and Boston United in 2006. After a year with The Pilgrims he was signed by Grimsby Town where he remained for three seasons before being released in 2010. He briefly joined York City before moving on to Gainsborough Trinity. He signed with Guiseley in August 2011 and played for the club until December 2012 when he emigrated to Thailand to become a football coach at an academy. James Michael Neil Clarke (born 2 April 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for side Solihull Moors. Born in England, he is a youth international for the Republic of Ireland.
