Jamal Cyrus
Jamal Cyrus (born 1973) is an American Conceptual art, conceptual artist who works in a range of media, including drawing, sculpture, textiles, Assemblage (art), assemblage, Installation art, installation, Performance art, performance, and Sound art, sound. His artistic and research practices investigates the history, culture, and identity of the United States, questioning conventional narratives and foregrounding Black political movements, social justice concerns, and the experiences and impact of the African diaspora, including Black music. Biography Cyrus was born in Houston, Texas, where he lives and works. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA from the University of Houston in 2004 before attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2005. In literary criticism, the term fabulation was popularized by Robert Scholes, in his work ''The Fabulators'', to describe the large and growing class of mostly 20th century novels that are in a style similar to magical realism, and do not fit into the traditional categories of realism or (novelistic) romance. The New Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, is a museum in New York City at 235 Bowery, on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
