Jamaica competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games that were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. Jamaica sent a 48-member team for this edition of Commonwealth Games. Big names like Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt withdrew from the games and were not present in the squad. Jamaica Olympic Association
Jamaica Olympic Association (IOC code: JAM) is the National Olympic Committee representing Jamaica. It is also the body responsible for Jamaica's representation at the Olympic Games. History The Jamaica Olympic Association was founded in 1936 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee in the same year. Member federations The Jamaican National Federations are the organizations that coordinate all aspects of their individual sports. They are responsible for training, competition and development of their sports. There are currently 18 Olympic Summer and 2 Winter Sport Federations and 4 Non-Olympic Sport Federations in Jamaica. Nickiesha Wilson
Nickiesha Wilson (born 28 July 1986 in Kingston) is a hurdler from Jamaica. She competes in the 100 m hurdles and the 400 m hurdles. Currently her 100 m hurdles personal best is 12.79 achieved at Szczecin, Poland in 2009. She ran a personal best of 53.97 in the 400 m hurdles in Osaka in 2007. Wilson finished fourth in the 2007 World Championships in the 400 metres hurdles. She competed in the 400 metres hurdles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she qualified for the second round with the tenth fastest overall time of 55.75 seconds. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, she won the bronze medal in 400 m hurdles. Wilson is the most prolific hurdler in NCAA history. Remaldo Rose
Remaldo Rose (born 18 November 1987) is a Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. Rose went to Camperdown High School in September 2000, but was injured in his early years. His performances improved in 2003 and he broke the VMBS Boys and Girls Athletic Championship Class 2 100 m record three times consecutively in the heats, semis and final. He also took the Class 2 200 m title that year and went on to win the 100 m and 200 m Class 1 titles in his first year. He helped his team to many relay victories, including the relay which the school had not entered for a number of years. The Camperdown team also won at the Penn Relays, and he was selected for the junior international relay team. At the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics he won the bronze medal in the 100 m and anchored the junior relay team to the silver medal behind the United States. Lerone Ephraime Clarke (born 7 July 1981) is a Jamaican track and field sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres and the 60 metres. He is the former Commonwealth Games champion in the 100 m. His personal best for that distance is 9.99 seconds, set in 2009. He has represented Jamaica three times at the IAAF World Indoor Championships and holds the Jamaican record for the indoor 150m. Lansford Spence
Lansford Spence (born 15 December 1982) is a Jamaican sprinter. Together with Sanjay Ayre, Brandon Simpson and Davian Clarke he won a bronze medal in 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He also competed in the individual contest, but was knocked out in the semi final. In 2006 the relay team won another bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. He won a Commonwealth Games Silver medal in the 200m in 2010. He was one of five athletes (along with Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Allodin Fothergill and Sheri-Ann Brooks) who failed their doping tests at the 2009 Jamaican National Championships. All five tested positive for banned stimulant methylxanthine. Spence received a three-month doping ban for the infraction. |
