Jama'at Ansar Al-Islam
Jama'at Ansar al-Islam (Arabic: جماعة أنصار الإسلام; ''Congregation of the Supporters of Islam''; JAI) was a mostly Kurdish Salafi jihadist militant group active in Syria and Iraq. It was founded in 2007 after Jamaat Ansar al-Sunna disbanded, and was dissolved and formally incorporated into the Syrian Ministry of Defense following the 2024 Syrian opposition offensives. It was modeled after Ansar al-Islam, a group active from 2001 to 2003, although it was a separate group. Jamaat Ansar al-Sunnah ( ar, جماعة أنصار السنه, Jama'at 'Anṣār as-Sunnah, lit=Assembly of the Helpers of Sunnah), also known as Jaish Ansar al-Sunna (Army of the Helpers of Sunnah), Ali ibn Abi Talib Battalion or simply as Ansar al-Sunnah was an Iraqi Sunni insurgent group that fought against US troops and their local allies during the Iraq War. The group was primarily based in northern and central Iraq, and included mostly Iraqi (including Arab and Kurdish) fighters. 2024 Syrian Opposition Offensives
On 27 November 2024, a coalition of Syrian opposition groups called the Military Operations Command led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and supported by allied Turkish-backed groups in the Syrian National Army (SNA) launched an offensive against the pro-government Syrian Arab Army (SAA) forces in Idlib, Aleppo and Hama Governorates in Syria. The operation was codenamed Deterrence of Aggression by HTS. The American-led intervention in the Syrian Civil War refers to the American-led support of Syrian rebels and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) during the course of the Syrian civil war, including Operation Inherent Resolve, the active military operation led by the United States, and involving the militaries of the United Kingdom, France, Jordan, Turkey, Canada, Australia, and others against the Islamic State (IS) and al-Nusra Front since 2014.
