Jacob Van Wassenaer Obdam (younger)
Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam (25 August 1635 – 24 May 1714) was a Dutch States Army officer from the prominent Van Wassenaer family who served in the Franco-Dutch War, Nine Years' War and War of the Spanish Succession. His extensive career made him eligible for the supreme command of the Dutch States Army in 1703, but his military career came to an abrupt end after he fled his army during the Battle of Ekeren and the position was given to Henry de Nassau, Lord Overkirk, Hendrik van Nassau-Ouwerkerk instead. He was born in Heusden, the son of the famous Dutch Admiral Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam. On 19 May 1676 at Delden he married Adriana Sophia van Raesfelt. Their son was composer and diplomat Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer. Unlike his father, he chose career in the army, rather than the navy. Heusden
Heusden () is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality and a city in the south of the Netherlands. It is located between the towns of Waalwijk and 's-Hertogenbosch. Unico Wilhelm Van Wassenaer
Unico Wilhelm, Count van Wassenaer Obdam (30 October 1692 – 9 November 1766) was a Dutch nobleman who was a diplomat as well as a composer. He reorganized the Bailiwick of Utrecht of the Teutonic Order. His most important surviving compositions are the ''Concerti Armonici'', which until 1980 had been misattributed to the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710–1736) and to Carlo Ricciotti (1681–1756). The Dutch nobility is a small elite social class consisting of individuals or families recognised as nobility, noble, and with or without a title of nobility in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. General Slangenburg
Frederik Johan van Baer, Lord of Slangenburg (27 July 1645 – 15 December 1713) was a Dutch States Army officer. He served under William of Orange in the Franco-Dutch War and Nine Years' War. He was to become a controversial figure for his role in the War of the Spanish Succession. While a talented general, he possessed a very difficult character. Slangenburg was often at odds with his fellow generals, especially the Allied commander-in-chief, the Duke of Marlborough. The hero status he acquired as a result of his conduct in the Battle of Ekeren couldn't prevent his eventual dismissal during the 1705 campaign. Leading writer Thomas Lediard to remark that Slangenburg: ''lost by his tongue what he had gained by his sword.''
