Jacob's Ladder (the Filthy Tongues Album)
''Jacob's Ladder'' is the first album from the Scottish group the Filthy Tongues and was self-released in 2016 by the band on their own label Blokshok Records, in association with Neon Tetra. The album follows ''Addiction'' and ''Dark Passenger'', two records recorded by an earlier incarnation of the band known as Isa & the Filthy Tongues, as well as following the albums released by the members earlier major label bands Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Angelfish. Inspired by the dark stories of the band's Edinburgh base, as well as the vignette-based approach to the lyrics of the Garbage song "Bleed Like Me", ''Jacob's Ladder'' received much praise from the Scottish and wider music press. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. Goodbye Mr Mackenzie
Goodbye Mr Mackenzie is a Scottish rock band formed in Bathgate near Edinburgh. At the band's commercial peak, the line-up consisted of Martin Metcalfe on vocals, John Duncan on guitar, Fin Wilson on bass guitar, Shirley Manson and Rona Scobie on keyboards and backing vocals, and Derek Kelly on drums. The band came to prominence in the early 1980s after releasing two independent label singles, and were signed to Capitol Records. They charted in the UK with their debut album, ''Good Deeds and Dirty Rags'', and single release "The Rattler" but the band were hindered by record company conflicts and failed to break through outside the UK. The band split up in 1993, leaving Manson, Metcalfe, Wilson and Kelly to form Angelfish to continue recording music. Manson left for Garbage in 1994, and Goodbye Mr Mackenzie played their final live show at the end of 1995. Angelfish (band)
Angelfish was a short-lived early-1990s Scottish alternative rock group originating from Edinburgh, Scotland, formed as a side-project to Scottish group Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, after keyboardist and backing vocalist Shirley Manson was signed as a solo artist to circumvent the Mackenzies' existing record contract. Angelfish released a single self-titled studio album, ''Angelfish'', and two singles of which the first was an EP for minor college radio hit "Suffocate Me". A vignette (, also ) is a French loanword expressing a short and descriptive piece of writing that captures a brief period in time. "Bleed Like Me" is a song by American alternative rock band Garbage and the title-track of their fourth studio album (2005). After many reviews highlighted the track as the centrepiece of the ''Bleed Like Me'' album, "Bleed Like Me" was released as the album's second single in North America by Geffen Records imprint Almo Sounds. Despite previous single "Why Do You Love Me" being an out-of-the-box success at radio and a Hot 100 entry, "Bleed Like Me" received a more muted reception from radio programmers.
