Jackson's (restaurant)
Jackson's was a restaurant in Highgate, Western Australia, Highgate, an inner suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It was established in July 1998 and closed in 2014. For much of its existence, it was Perth's number one "special night out" destination. It won many awards, and was described by ''The New York Times'' as ''"... perhaps the town's top table, with a formidable selection of Australian wines ..."''. The restaurant's owner and chef, English-born Neal Jackson, served his apprenticeship at the Savoy Hotel in London, and later worked elsewhere in that city. He emigrated to Australia in 1971, and initially held various positions in restaurants around Western Australia. History The company was founded by William Jackson (1828–1912), who was born in Elstronwick and opened his first shop at 28 Scale Lane in Hull in 1851. He originally traded as a grocer and tea dealer. The Jacksons Stores chain, which by that time comprised 114 convenience stores across the north of England, was sold to Sainsbury's in 2004. The first bakery opened in 1891 and the current Jackson's bakery on Derringham Street opened in 1907. The company developed a process for commercially producing Yorkshire puddings in 1968. In 1974, Butlin's leisure company asked the bakery to create a Yorkshire pudding for its holiday camps which led to the development of the Aunt Bessie's brand producing 20 million Yorkshire puddings a week. Jacksons was an English department store chain. It was founded by Edward Jackson in September 1875. Its flagship branch was located in central Reading, Berkshire, occupying a prominent site, '' Jacksons Corner'', on Kings Road, just south of Market Place. Jacksons Stores Ltd, named after the founder William Jackson, was a British chain of 114 convenience shops in Yorkshire and the North Midlands that was founded in 1891 by the Hull-based William Jackson & Sons Ltd and sold to Sainsbury's in 2004, an acquisition which doubled that company's share of the convenience shop market. After the takeover by Sainsbury's, many Jacksons Stores were initially refurbished to trade under the ''Sainsbury's at Jacksons'' brand. Jacksons is a settlement and railway station in the Westland District of the West Coast of New Zealand. The TranzAlpine Express passes through Jacksons. Jacksons was the railhead for the Midland Line from Stillwater via Moana from 1894, until the line was extended to Otira in 1899. The station opened on 1 March 1894 (using a building from Teremakau on 23 February 1894), and closed on 3 November 1986. The ''Jackson’s Accommodation House'', now the ''Jackson Tavern'', was bought by Michael Jackson in 1870; Michael and his brother Adam from Scotland had moved there after spending some time on the Otago Goldfields.
