Jack Whitam
Jack Whitam is an English actor. Whitam has appeared in a large number of Shakespeare plays during his career, notably as Caliban in Sprite Productions version of The Tempest which was set on a real island in the lakes of Ripley Castle and as Touchstone in As You Like It which was directed by The Factory Theatre Company artistic director Alex Hassell, where he was lauded as a "comic tour de force". Caliban
Caliban ( ), the subhuman son of the sea witch Sycorax, is an important character in William Shakespeare's play ''The Tempest''. His character is one of the few Shakespearean figures to take on a life of its own "outside" Shakespeare's own work: as Russell Hoban put it, "Caliban is one of the hungry ideas, he's always looking for someone to word him into being . . . Caliban is a necessary idea". Character Caliban is half human, half monster. After his island becomes occupied by Prospero and his daughter Miranda, Caliban is forced into slavery. The Tempest
''The Tempest'' is a Shakespeare's plays, play by William Shakespeare, probably written in 1610–1611, and thought to be one of the last plays that he wrote alone. After the first scene, which takes place on a ship at sea during a tempest, the rest of the story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, a magician, lives with his daughter Miranda (The Tempest), Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel (The Tempest), Ariel, an airy spirit. Ripley Castle
Ripley Castle is a Grade I listed 14th-century country house in Ripley, North Yorkshire, England, north of Harrogate. The house is built of coursed squared gritstone and ashlar with grey slate and stone slate roofs. A central two-storey block is flanked by a tower at one end and a three-storey wing at the other. A gatehouse which stands some to the south of the main buildings is also Grade I listed, whilst the two weirs over Ripley Beck (and the bridges that straddle them) are Grade II listed and the grounds and gardens are also listed at Grade II. The castle has been the seat of the Ingilby baronets for centuries. In June 2024 it was announced that it was to be sold. Touchstone (As You Like It)
Touchstone is a fictional character in Shakespeare's play ''As You Like It''. He is a court Jester, he was used throughout the play to both provide comic relief through sometimes vulgar humor and contrarily share wisdom, fitting the archetype of the Shakespearean fool. Oftentimes, he acts as a character who foils his surroundings, observing and mocking the events and characters of the play. Role in the play Touchstone is the court jester of Duke Frederick the usurper's court. The Factory Theatre Company
The Factory Theatre Company is a theatre company based in the United Kingdom. History The Factory's first production, William Shakespeare's ''Hamlet'', was first performed at various pop-up locations across London, the first of these being a studio theatre in Southwark, and others included City Hall and County Hall. Each cast member was able to play multiple parts, and the only "props" used were objects brought by the audience (which once included a baby). According to ''The Guardian'', this production won The Factory a "cult following". The Factory's production of ''The Seagull'' was first performed at the Hampstead Theatre in London in April 2009, directed by Tim Carroll. Alexander Stephen Hassell is an English actor, and co-founder of The Factory Theatre Company.
