Jack Stevens
Major General Sir Jack Edwin Stawell Stevens, (7 September 1896 – 20 May 1969) was a senior officer in the Australian Army during the Second World War. He was best known as the commanding officer of the 6th Division from 1943 to 1945. Early life Born on 7 September 1896 at Daylesford, Victoria, Stevens was the youngest child of Herbert Clarence Stevens and Violet Ophelia, née Bury. He attended schooling at Daylesford. He began working at the age of 12 at a cigar factory, before joining the Postmaster-General's Department as a clerk in the electrical engineers' branch in 1915. First World War Stevens enlisted on 2 July 1915 in the Australian Imperial Force in the Signal Corp and sailed for Egypt in November with the rank of corporal. He was promoted in March 1916 to sergeant and served with the 4th Divisional Signal Company. John Stevens (1 February 1909 – after 1943) was an English professional footballer who made more than 200 Football League appearances playing as a centre half for Ashington, Stockport County and Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Stevens was born in Broomhill, Northumberland. As a young man, he was a professional sprinter who won the Morpeth Handicap Sprint. He began his Football League career with Ashington, for whom he appeared twice, and was on the books of Manchester City without playing first-team football, before joining Stockport County in late 1932. He became a regular for Stockport over the next 18 months, was ever-present in the 1933–34 season, and appeared on the losing side in the inaugural Third Division North Cup Final. Jack Alexander Stevens (born 2 August 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Cambridge United. Stevens spent time in the youth teams at Chelsea, Barnet and Reading, before turning professional at Oxford United in April 2016. He was loaned out to Cirencester Town, Tamworth and Port Vale. He left Oxford and joined Cambridge United in June 2023. Career Early career Stevens spent time in the youth teams at Chelsea and Barnet, but was rejected by both clubs due to his small stature. John Shorter Stevens (May 30, 1933 – April 23, 2019) was an American politician and lawyer from North Carolina. Stevens was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 30, 1933. He attended Christ School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as its law school. After two years of military service with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Stevens began practicing law in 1961, and later cofounded the firm Roberts & Stevens via merger. Jack Steven (born 28 March 1990) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda and Geelong Football Clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL). During his time at St Kilda, where he played 183 games, Steven won the club's best and fairest award four times. At the peak of his career, from 2015 through 2018, Steven polled double-figure votes in the Brownlow Medal in each season, highlighting his consistency and value to the Saints' midfield.
