Jack Henry Abbott
Jack Henry Abbott (January 21, 1944 – February 10, 2002) was an American criminal and author. With a long history of criminal convictions, Abbott's writing concerning his life and experiences was lauded by a number of well-known literary critics, including author Norman Mailer. Due partly to lobbying by Mailer and others on Abbott's behalf, Abbott was released from prison in 1981 where he was serving sentences for forgery, manslaughter, and bank robbery. Abbott's memoir '' In the Belly of the Beast'' was published with positive reviews soon after his release. Six weeks after being paroled from prison, Abbott stabbed and killed a waiter outside a New York City cafe. Abbott was convicted and sent back to prison, where he killed himself in 2002. Abbott described his life as being a "state-raised convict", spending much of his life since age 12 in confinement in state facilities, including solitary confinement. George Henry "Jack" Abbott (February 6, 1873 – June 22, 1918) was the head coach of the University of Maine's football team in 1896 and compiled a 1–3–2 record. Also in 1896, Abbott was the head coach of the Maine Black Bears baseball team, which a 5–4 record that season. Jack Simon Abbott (born 18 October 1990) Exeter is a British Labour and Co-operative Party politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich since 2024. Early life and career Abbott, born in Exeter, grew up in Suffolk, where he was educated at Debenham High School and Framlingham College. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Sheffield in 2012. Abbott has worked in communications for several companies, and as an assistant to a Member of Parliament. He has been a teaching assistant at an Ipswich school, and was a Westminster lobbyist prior to his election to Parliament. Political career Abbott was the Labour candidate for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich at the 2015 general election, coming second to Conservative Dan Poulter.
