J Award
The J Awards are an annual series of Australian music awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J, and which also extend to sister stations, Triple J Unearthed and Double J. The awards are presented through on-air ceremony held in November each year as part of Triple J's Ausmusic Month. Background and awards As part of Triple J's 30th anniversary celebrations in 2005, the station inaugurated a single "J Award" to be given for "an album of outstanding achievement as an Australian musical work of art – for its creativity, innovation, musicianship and contribution to Australian music." Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The station was set up under the Gough Whitlam government, wanting to extend the appeal of the ABC to young Australians. Initially broadcasting as 2JJ or Double Jay from 19 January 1975, it stood apart from commercial stations with its lack of private advertising and its fringe music programming. Following a transition to FM in 1981, the station rebranded as 2JJJ or Triple J as it expanded regionally throughout the 1990s. Two spin-off digital stations were launched in the early 2010s: Double J aims to appeal to more mature audiences, and Triple J Unearthed plays only unsigned, local musicians. The announcement comes at the culmination of Ausmusic Month (November). In 2007, a new award for ''Unearthed Artist of the Year'' was added to the award for ''Australian Album of the Year''. The Middle East (band)
The Middle East were an Australian indie folk band that formed in Townsville, Queensland in 2005. The group garnered attention initially by playing small shows in their home town and quickly grew to national and international fame due to their rising popularity on music blogs and websites. In early 2008, the band released their home recorded first album called ''The Recordings of The Middle East''. The band split up before reconvening in 2009 and signing to Australian indie label Spunk Records who re-issued 'The Recordings Of The Middle East' as an abridged EP. The Middle East's first official full length album, '' I Want That You Are Always Happy'' was released in Australia and New Zealand on 8 April 2011. Sarah Blasko
Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow (born 23 September 1976), known professionally as Sarah Blasko, is an Australian singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. From April 2002, Blasko developed her solo career after fronting Sydney-based band Acquiesce between the mid-1990s and 2001. She had performed under her then married name, Sarah Semmens, and, after leaving Acquiesce, as Sorija in a briefly existing duo of that name. As Day Follows Night
''As Day Follows Night'' is the third album by Australian singer/songwriter Sarah Blasko. It was produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John and recorded in early 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden. It was released in Australia on 10 July 2009. The making of ''As Day Follows Night'' was chronicled by Blasko on her blog. At the J Awards of 2009, the album won Australian Album of the Year. Album In regards to the album's lyrical themes, Blasko told Rolling Stone Australia magazine: "The basis is definitely my life, but I like to take it into a heightened reality. The Herd (Australian Band)
The Herd were an Australian hip hop group formed in Sydney 2001. The group employs a "full band" format and is recognised for its live shows. The Herd is composed of Ozi Batla, Urthboy, Berzerkatron (MCs), Unkle Ho (beats), Traksewt (piano accordion, clarinet and beats), Sulo (beats and guitar), Toe-Fu (guitar), Rok Poshtya (bass) and singer Jane Tyrrell. John Steel Singers
The John Steel Singers were an Australian six-piece band from Brisbane, Queensland, named after a toy horse that band member Tim Morrissey named John Steel. They were formed in 2007 when Morrissey and Scott Bromiley decided to start making music together and were soon joined by Ross Chandler, Pete Bernoth, Pat McDermott and Luke McDonald (formerly of Sunk Loto) . The band released an EP and a mini album independently before signing with Levi's Jeans' record label Levity and releasing another EP, ''In Colour''. The band has had multiple tracks on rotation on Triple J, won a Triple J Unearthed competition and became the Unearthed Artist of the Year in 2008. The Presets
The Presets are an Australian electronic music duo of Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards). Formed in 2003 and signed to Modular Recordings, Modular Records, The Presets released two EPs (''Blow Up (EP), Blow Up'', ''Girl and the Sea'') in advance of their debut album, ''Beams (The Presets album), Beams'', released in 2005 to positive critical response. Apocalypso (The Presets Album)
''Apocalypso'' is the second studio album by Australian electronic dance music duo The Presets. The album was released by record label Modular on 12 April 2008 in Australia, on 13 May in the United States, and 2 June in the United Kingdom.
