Island Line (MTR)
The Island line is one of eleven lines of the MTR, the mass transit system in Hong Kong. It runs from Kennedy Town in the Western district to Chai Wan in the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island, passing through the territory's major business districts of Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and connecting them with built-up areas on the north shore of the island. The line first opened on 31 May 1985. As of 2022 it travels in 25 minutes along its route, serving 17 stations. The line is indicated by the colour dark blue on the MTR route map. History The Hong Kong Government authorised the construction of the -long Island line in December 1980, after rejecting plans to extend the tram to Chai Wan. Kennedy Town Station
Kennedy Town is the western terminus of the . The station serves the Kennedy Town area on the northwestern end of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. History Planning When the station first appeared in ''Hong Kong Mass Transit: Further Studies'' in 1970, it was simply known as Kennedy (). It was to be built as part of the Island line in the 1980s, but construction of the line did not commence westwards beyond , citing inadequate passengers and technical difficulties by contractors. Admiralty () is a Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station in Admiralty, Hong Kong. The station's livery is blue and white. Hong Kong Tramways (HKT) is a narrow-gauge tram system in Hong Kong. Wan Chai
Wan Chai is situated at the western part of the Wan Chai District on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. Its other boundaries are Canal Road to the east, Arsenal Street to the west and Bowen Road to the south. The area north of Gloucester Road is often referred to as Wan Chai North. Kennedy Town
Kennedy Town is at the western end of Sai Wan on Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It was named after Arthur Edward Kennedy, the 7th Governor of Hong Kong from 1872 to 1877. Administratively, it is part of Central and Western District.
