Iziaslav, Ukraine
Iziaslav or Izyaslav (, ), also known as Zaslav (, ; , ), is one of the oldest cities in Volhynia. Situated on the Horyn River in western Ukraine, the city dates back to the 11th century. Iziaslav belongs to Shepetivka Raion of Khmelnytskyi Oblast. It hosts the administration of Iziaslav urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History Izyaslav was first mentioned in 1390. It was a private town in Poland, owned by the Zasławski and Sanguszko families. It was part of the Polish Volhynian Voivodeship. In 1583 it was granted Magdeburg city rights. After the Partitions of Poland Iziaslav was part of the Russian Empire – Volhynian Governorate. At the beginning of World War II, the town had a Jewish population representing 28% of the inhabitants. As soon as the Germans occupied the town, Jews were kept imprisoned in a ghetto and were later murdered in mass executions perpetrated by '' Einsatzgruppen''. Iziaslav Raion
Iziaslav Raion () was a raion in Khmelnytskyi Oblast in Ukraine. Its administrative center was the city of Iziaslav. It was established in 1923. One city and ninety-one villages were located in Iziaslav Raion. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast to three. The area of Iziaslav Raion was merged into Shepetivka Raion. The last estimate of the raion population was Geography Iziaslav Raion was a part of Volhynia. It was one out 20 raions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast. Iziaslav IV Vladimirovich
Iziaslav IV Vladimirovich (1186 – 1236) was Prince of Terebovl' (1210), Novgorod-Seversk (until 1235) and Grand Prince of Kiev (1235–1236). He was the son of Vladimir Igorevich. Iziaslav Vladimirovich was an Igorevich (descendant of Igor Sviatoslavich) and a member of a cadet branch of the Ol'govichi (descendants of Oleg Sviatoslavich). According to the Hypatian Chronicle, in 1234, Vladimirovich, with the help of the nomadic Polovtsy, campaigned against Vladimir Riurikovich and Daniil Romanovich of Volyn' and Galich. He defeated them near Torchesk, taking Vladimir prisoner. In the year 1235, Iziaslav IV marched from Kamenets with Mikhail Vsevelodovich, the Poles, the Russians, and the Polovtsy marched against Daniil again but were unsuccessful. According to the Novgorod First Chronicle, Prince Iziaslav and the Polovtsy joined Mikhail and troops from Chernigov to successfully attack and capture Kiev. Iziaslav (Brutskiy)
Metropolitan Iziasłaŭ (22 January 1926 – 26 November 2007, born Ivan Daniłavič Brucki) was the primate of the Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Ivan Brucki was born in a wealthy farmer's family in Biełavuša (now Stolin Raion in Brest Voblast), West Belarus. After the annexation of West Belarus by the Soviet Union in 1939, Brucki's father was in 1940 exiled to Kazakhstan. In 1943 the young Ivan Brucki was sent by the Nazis to Germany as an ostarbeiter. Having avoided repatriation in 1947, Ivan Brucki graduated from a gymnasium in Hannover. He then immigrated to Canada and participated there in the local Belarusian social and life and the parish life of the Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
